Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning. Most popular condiments used in hamburgers in the United States are mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.
Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top. American restaurants also serve veggie burgers for those who don't relish meat. Cheeseburgers are also hot favorite in the United States.
McDonalds is the most popular fast food burger restaurant serving different types of burgers in the United States. On the other hand, there are several restaurants such as Burger King are famous for serving the best hamburgers in the United States. Most burger restaurants in the United States often serve hamburgers with French fries and other condiments. If you have a liking for burgers in the United States, then you won't be disappointed. You can easily find the best burger restaurants in your city on our Restaurants Listings directory. There's a booth in the far back right, kinda behind one of those touchscreen waitstaff kiosks that seems terribly out of place in this rather rickety restaurant that seems one decent Texas thunderstorm away from being spread to the corners of the earth. If you get seated there, three things. 1) Sit down slowly. The shiny/sparkly gold booths should probably come with a sign to not plop down hard as the springs that were once vibrant circa the time of Elvis have long since left the building. 2) The table had all the stability of a drunken toddler. 3) Look directly above the touchscreen and you see three things that sum up this place perfectly. An American Flag, a photo of a few dozen sausage links being smoked and somebodies mamma. Not mother, Mamma. I really try not to give five stars. I kinda believe its a "perfect storm" of quality, favors, ambiance, service and just general I-wanna-come-back-here-ness. And all if it has to be among the best at each. This was an easy call. Dive? Oh hell yes. Service? Quick, efficient and exceedingly friendly. Ambiance? Tons. Food? Burger was among the best I've ever had. Thick, but not too thick. Juicy but not greasy. Just. fantastic. Fries were perfect. I try not to use that word. But they were. And the fact that the tables had Sriracha instead of Tabasco gives them another huge point. Flavors matter. Yes, there is all sorts of new, pretty, shiny, flashy restaurants in the area, offering booths with support, tables that don't fall over and seating for more people than your kitchen. And next time I am in the area ( and every time there after ), I will never set foot in any of them.

two of us in this afternoon for burgers and fries. best fries ever, for me. real potatoes cut up and fried just right. i had a serrano pepper burger and was just right hot. was much hottter than I expected. most restaurants will not have this hot an item on menu. But I really liked and was at a comfy limit for my tastes. Friend had a cheese burger of some kind. Very good service too. I would sure return for the burgers.

We came in on a Friday night based on the fact that this is a DD&D place. We found two seats at the bar, and sat and sat, ignored by the staff. A waitress came over to the cash register to ring up a ticket so I asked her if that had menus. She literally spat out "YES". So I asked her if we could get one. She finished ringing up her ticket, turned her back on us and walked away. After sitting for a couple of more minutes we left. Guy, you messed up badly on this one. Can't rate the food if I can't get served. I would have given zero stars if that were an option.

This place is outstanding. Stopped in on a recommendation from a friend while I was in Fort Worth last week. Personable, friendly service. Engaged visible management. I had the special that day which was the stacked pork chile verde enchilada. It was hands down the best enchilada's I've ever had. Everyone at our table was thrilled with their meals, one person ordered the blue cheese burger and the other ordered the street taco special. All were thrilled with their choices. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Forth Worth.

I finally tried Fred's and it's to die for! The burger is juicy but not to where it's dripping all over your lap. It's one of my favorite burgers of all time for sure.

My daughter moved to FW over the summer and I've visited a few times. We're trying all the popular places one by one. Yesterday we stopped in Fred's for a late lunch. I never even saw the dining room or how to get in. We parked on Currie and sat on the patio. It was the first comfortable day I'd had in FW and cool enough to eat outside. I had read many many reviews and my expectations were a bit low. We got couple of Bloody Mary's which were ok. We asked the very nice waitress if the Diablo burger was as spicy as I had read and she said no, not to her--she said the other one with the green chilis was much more so. We decided to take a chance. We ordered a Diablo burger and a Bacon Barbecue burger and told her we planned to share. They arrived cut in half so we traded halves. As I told the waitress, I can handle a 5 6 7 heat-wise but I might struggle with an 8 9 10. Honestly, I didn't think it was hot at all. My daughter said it had "no heat." The chipotles and sauce were a standard canned type chipotle that added nicely to the flavor but without any searing heat. I've cooked with much spicier chipotles at home. I liked the Diablo burger a lot! I also enjoyed the barbecue burger. Both burgers came with mustard on them in addition to the sauces, which was surprising. I could have done without the mustard but it didn't detract, maybe I would have liked a bit more barbecue sauce and less mustard, but it was still quite good! I thought both burgers were really tasty, but if if I had known (or thought) to ask for medium, I would have. I felt they were both slightly overdone. Still, I'm not complaining! Now, the fries, on the other hand, were really fantastic!! To me, fries are usually just garnish, but I loved these fries! They were skin-on, crispy outside and super silky inside. They had a grease aspect but couldn't be called "greasy" at all. Really nice potato flavor! Maybe if they had been cut slightly thicker the contrast between the skin and the inside would have been even better, but no complaints! Loved them! All in all, a great first experience at Fred's! The waitress (dark hair, tatts) was really nice and gave the vibe of really being a part of her restaurant's family. Our food took a bit longer to arrive than we were expecting since there were only a few tables occupied on the patio, but, like I said, we never even saw the dining room, so for all I know there could have been 100 people in there. I can hear the bands that play and the crowd cheering at Fred's from the porch of my daughter's apartment at night. I'd really like to go back at night to hear the music!

I n the middle of the new Cultural district with fancy restaurants like Bailey's and Brownstone..... Is Fred's Texas Cafe. It looks like a red plywood shack that the district could not tear down to re-develop.When you drive by it is always packed and when you eat there you know why. The Diablo Burger is tied for my all time favorite burgers with two other burgers. It has roasted chipotle peppers on it and you better have a cold ass beer to go with it and a napkin to wipe your forehead because the heat does kick in later. The flavor of this burger is awesome. It will cost you eleven bucks to get it but it is big and tasty ! The fries are great also. $1.90 Happy hour even on bottles of micro-brew beer. I have eaten here many a times and always love it.

Holy crap, I've never been to a place more "Texas" than Fred's. This small diner is located in the middle of a newer shopping center that includes Brownstone and Bailey's Prime Rib. But make no mistake, this place is truly original. The restaurant consists of a small room, the size of my living room, and an outdoor seating area. They have Texas paraphernalia all over the walls: longhorns, bull heads, cattle brands painted about, and even the western/hunting channel on the flat screens. What adds to the ambiance are the customers, every other guy that walked in either had cowboy boots or a cowboy hat, or both. One dude even had a unconcealed knife! For work purposes of course. That being said, the people here are very friendly. That includes the staff and the patrons. The menu is very simple and consists of your diner favorites: burgers, steaks, nachos, etc. The chicken fried steak dish special is an absolute steal: $12.50 for a dinner salad (blue cheese dressing is awesome), huge steak, gravy, fries, and Texas toast. This entree was enough to feed both my wife AND me. To top it off, they have $2 Coors drafts all day everyday.

Finally made my way to Fred's to experience what everyone was talking about! I ordered the BBQ burger, my husband ordered the Serrano burger and my friend ordered the chicken fried steak. The burgers were both juicy, beefy and very delicious! If you are a fan of fresh cut, homestyle fries -- you will love the ones here! As for the chicken fried steak, I am not a fan. There wasn't much flavor in the steak or in the cream gravy. The service was great for a busy Sunday -- although all the seats were filled, I felt the guys were still very attentive to what we needed and how we were doing! Definitely will go back for another juicy burger!
(4)Jordan B.
This place is a MUST to eat at in Fort Worth, it's been featured on the Food Network!! The food is prepared very well. The burgers are everyones favorite but the Bone in Ribeye is my favorite, a massive slab of charred meat. The atmosphere is where this place really shines, like nothing else in the area. A neat patio with live music and a fast and attentive waitstaff.
(5)Thadd J.
There's not much to say about Fred's, it's a burger dive that makes great burgers. That's it. You get a big juicy burger with fresh topping and awesome fresh natural-cut fries! There's some other great sounding items on the menu that I will try in my return visits. But most return visits will be about the burgers.
(4)Nick S.
Don't let the looks of this place fool you. This is what I like to call the classic "hole in the wall" diner. It's a very old building, very small and usually packed. Serving anything from chicken fried steak, tacos and my personal favorite, the Diablo burger with hand cut fries and the "cold ass" beer, this place is great! There is an outdoor dining patio (with much more seating than inside) with live, local music on the weekends. On Sundays they serve brunch only from 10:30am to 1:00pm. Try the quail (yes, really) and eggs and a mimosa schooner. The atmosphere is very friendly and the service is great !

I'm ashamed there's not a Fred's review up here from me. I could've sworn I'd done one years ago, but apparently not. I'm a bad Funkytowner! Regardless, I've been spreading the word about Fred's for as long as I can remember. Back from when it was just a rinky dink place with a few booths and no surrounding businesses, til now when it has a huge, band-frequenting outdoor patio and new fancy restaurants all around it. Despite the changes in scenery, Fred's is as good as ever. A true Fort Worth joint, you'll find friendly faces and real Texas chow at Fred's. The beers are cold and cheap, and you can always find the latest Rahr on tap. They have a standard menu that's delish, but the best part of Fred's is its ever-changing specials menu. You can't go wrong with anything on it - truly. The burgers, the apps, the sides, they're all top notch. I keep hearing about how their brunch rocks, too. So it's next on my Sunday Funday list. I mean, mimosas in a schooner? Hello! Count me in.

This is a restaurant with a social conscience, that serves amazing food and represents some of the best that Fort Worth has to offer! The first time I ate at Fred's, I was hooked! Their burgers are so good you will crave them constantly! Their french fries, especially the bacon cheese fries, are absolutely delicious. I've also tried their chicken fried steak...it is good, but I think their burgers and fries are the very best and I will not stray from perfection ever again. The original location, off 7th Street, is great and the newer locale on Bluebonnet Circle also does not disappoint. The live music is excellent and if you want to watch a game, this is a great place to do it. Essentially, Fred's is the place to go for Fort Worth burgers at their best in a chill, sporty environment. It can get a bit loud at times and the service is not always super fast, but the staff go out of their way to make your experience a positive one. Plus, the owners routinely cook and distribute free food to the homeless on Thanksgiving, asking friends and family to help with delivery.

This place was cool. Nestled in a hopping and happening part of Ft. Worth, it is a little piece of old evidently as it has been there for years. Service was quick, the burger and the fries were both solid. Nothing low cal or vegetarian about this place, it was meatarific. Is it as good as austin's best burgers, I think not, but the entire party was satisfied, and the place was fun to people watch in.
(4)Teresa R.
I was at Fred's last night with my fella to drink some beers and eat wile we waited for a movie to start. I love this place. They make some of the best burgers I've ever had, and the musicians are always good. Last night, my burger was so good that I on-purpose didn't wash my hands so I could smell it all through the movie. I'm not sorry at all.

Decided that this trip down South we'd try to hit a few of the Diners, DriveIns and Dives featured on Food Network. This was the 2nd stop on the list. Staff was super accommodating even when we showed up with 3 adults and 5 kids. That being said, I would recommend that you leave kids at home. The atmosphere is fine for them but the menu is not and by that I mean there's no "kids menu" so once you've pieced together a lunch for them, it's pretty pricey. We had the Fred Burger, Chicken Fried Steak sandwich and chicken quesadillas. They were all delicious and huge portions.
(4)Erich M.
Yes, the Diablo Burger is all that... maybe the best burger I've ever had, although I'm not sure it's enough to award a 5th star. The burger was a bit expensive, and seating can be challenging. I saw this described as "divey"... and agree, but who cares?
(4)Dan S.
Fred's IS burgers. Let's just get that out of the way. You can take your Kincaid's, or your Tommy's, but Fred's IS it. Fred's is a dive. You will not care. There is very limited seating inside, and and somewhat more seating out on the patio. The patio is first come first serve, but inside is on a list at Lunch when the crows hit. And they do hit. You can eat at the bar if a chair is open. The bar is full-service (beer and mixed drinks). The burgers are delicious. They are grilled while covered with a metal bowl. I have no idea what this is intended to do (grill AND steam it?), but it locks in the juices well. The burgers hit the sweet spot on grease. Not too little, but not so much that the bun disintegrates. This is partly due to the light grilling of the bun which makes it less susceptible to moisture. The fries are hand cut and taste as such. THey are lightly seasoned in a manner that compliments both ketchup and ranch very well. For a little extra they serve them smothered in cheese with ranch on the side. Inform your doctor before you try this. On weekend night live bands perform on the patio. I have never been willing to force myself to wade into the crowd, but clearly someone is enjoying it. Parking is spotty, party because of all of the new construction in the area - the old dirt lot around the back which used to handle most of the parking is now gone. This has never bothered me, and so long as the burgers remain the same, it never will. Long live Fred's!
(5)Joel L.
Service wasn't that great but the live music was awesome.
(3)Jennifer J.
Fun atmosphere, but there are better burgers in town. I thought the meat was dry, but not not a bad bun.
(3)Robin M.
Fred's has one of the best burgers I've ever had. The beer is cold and live music on a Saturday afternoon is awesome. That being said Fred's is in need of some serious customer service training. Not enough staff with no organization at all. 5 people doing all the responsibilities: serving, bartending, bussing tables...it was nuts. Because everyone was scattered about they were losing customers and frustrating others. I hope this was an unusual day for them... They fix the service organization then it will get all the stars back.
(3)Kristin S.
The best patty melt I've ever had. The meat was cooked to perfection: juicy, greasy, tender goodness. Super comfortable, covered patio area centered around a stage. There's live music almost every single night, and there's never a cover. I love that they are exposing folks to local talent and good tunes. I'll support any place with great food, a great environment, and an appreciation and promotion of music.
(5)Stc T.
Quality burgers, but a bit slow on bringing them out. Burgers were juicy inside and caramelized outside.
(3)Anthony G.
Great hole-in-the-wall location. Their specialties are "Big-ass burgers and cold-ass beers". Can't go wrong with either. We went for a late lunch on a hot-ass day. Nothing better than starting with a cold Shiner. I had the Serrano burger--a big patty with chopped Serranos mixed in, topped with grilled peppers and cheese. Home-cut, fresh fries too. Messy and delicious. Service was very friendly and quick, considering the crowd. The prices aren't bad at all for what you get. Loved it! Great non-chain place with personality. Highly recommended! P.S. Stick with the original location, it has way more personality than the newer one.
(4)Paula G.
We found out about Fred's on Diners Drive-in's & Dives......We love this place....I love everything I have ordered & eaten at Fred's. Great spots bar too!!! We mainly go to the new Fred's Texas in North Ft. Worth.
(5)Paul M.
the atmosphere was spot on for a sports bar/grill. The price is on the high-side for the quality of food that you got. Burgers were ok, nothing that matches the price. Fries were soggy. Grilled chicken "special" was anything but special. Staff seemed friendly and helpful. Sprint users- spotty 3g/4g service. They do offer free wifi via the GUEST account, ask the waiter/waitress for the password. If i could, this would be a 3.5/5 rating.
(3)Anye F.
I'll start by saying there is a ceiling to just how high I will ever rate a burger. I like burgers but I don't love them and honestly I don't really notice minor variations in burger quality unless they're burnt or raw or made of something bizarre. I ordered the patty melt and fries. The patty melt was good if you put aside the fact that a patty melt is supposed to have rye bread, not texas toast. Other than that it tasted fine and did everything else right (just cheese & onions, no other junk). The meat was well done, about 30 secs less on the grill probably would have been perfect for me but people who like 'em rare would probably need to ask for them rare. (I didn't request any specific doneness). The fries were good quality, I could tell, but I like crispier fries than these were. The portion size was pretty big. I enjoyed the ambience and our server was very friendly and attentive, it took awhile for them to cook our food but they were full at lunch time so I won't fault them that. I'm sure we'll go back. I probably would have given them 4 stars if I liked the fries more. My honey was quite happy with his fredburger w/ cheese and fries.
(3)Holli Y.
Fred's is definitely holding its place as a Fort Worth dive in the midst of the uptown atmosphere that 7th street has become. If you can't handle a little hole in the wall place with amazing burgers don't come. It will be easier for the rest of us to get a seat!! Best Burgers, Biggest Beers and the funnest staff around!
(4)J. blake M.
Fred's doesn't do much, but it does it all exceptionally well. If I'm looking for a classic cheeseburger (as opposed to a tripped-up burger with quail eggs, garlic cream cheese, chopped brisket, etc), Fred's is the best. Great consistency -- the burgers taste the same regardless of what day or time you order them. Nice, peppery patty. Fairly big in size. Ample fixin's. The fries are the real food star at Fred's though. Steak cut and crispy. I hardly see it ordered, but the cheese fries with grilled onions, jalapenos, and bacon are simply the best cheese fries I've ever tasted (that's right Snuffer's, I just said that). Finally, the vibe of the place is everything you want in a Cowtown burger dive. That dingy little wooden building just keeps giving the finger to all the 7th Street buildings growing up around it. While it can get busy during weekday lunches -- sometimes even a 15-20 minute wait -- the place is typically just the right amount of crowded. I eat there frequently, and I feel like every time I walk in there's a table just being cleared. My favorite time to eat there is late on weekends (10pm or so). I just love the scene. Fred's is classic Fort Worth.

So I came here late one night after a couple of crappy rounds of free bowling. I suck not necessarily the bowling alley. I did not receive great service from Fred's. I get it, it was late and they really just wanted to clean up and close for the night, well the waitress asked if the cook if the kitchen was still open. And the cook said yes. The cook also says to the waitress "for you yes". Oh well sure for the waitress... what about for me? I am the one paying your rent anyway, right? Well whatever I ordered the chicken tacos and they came out looking awesome. LOOKING is the key word there. HUGE..... maybe a little too huge for their own good. Like most of the food that I have tasted since being in Fort Worth, and I know I'm just being mean, right? Because Fred's Texas Cafe is a Fort Worth ORIGINAL. I get that. Well maybe I just ordered the wrong thing on the menu, but as I was saying, like most of the food that I have tried in Fort Worth, these chicken tacos were lacking flavor. Had to use the salsa, Had to use the sour cream and I HAD to use the guacamole, which had gone bad so I just scooped it right back off the taco and let it slide. Seriously though, the best taco's I have had in Fort Worth are from Taco Cabana. Which was founded in San Antonio and is definitely a chain and a corporate monster, but the food is good there, what is so hard about chicken tacos. Have these people in Fort Worth never thought to cook with salt. I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but there it is. No I'm not on my rag. No I'm not having a bad day. I've had a week or two to think about my rating for this place and this is what it has come down to. Now I will indeed have to return to Fred's Texas Cafe to try the burger as Kevin has suggested and even to catch a performance, because anytime I feel the need to give a crap rating to a business that soooooo many people have given 4 and 5 stars to. It definitely makes me feel like I just happened to order the wrong thing on the menu.
(2)Barbara R.
Awesome experience at Fred's this time. Family all just had a Burger and all thought was better than the last time making it awesome.. I on the other hand, I had the Chicken Fried Steak. OMg! This was the best I have had, outside my Mama's kitchen. Real Gravy, this is the grease, flour and cream, lots of pepper (LOVE). YUM!! I tried to layoff the French Fries. But, my daughter was stealing my Gravy off my steak, so I had to order more, which went on the Fries.
(5)Linday C.
Best burger I have ever put in my mouth. Fred, I honestly love you and secretly WANT to know and DON'T WANT to know what you put into these special cheeseburgers. If you can't have a good time here, then you should never leave your house, or move to some Yankee town, or better yet move to some Yankee town then never leave your house. This place looks like something you'd find deep in the woods on some river. The inside diner is way adorable, and the outside patio is simply Texas with live music. Gets fun, lively, and crowded. Fred and all the regular people working here are a trip. Service knows the food and party is good, so they don't waste time superficially kissing your burger eating butt. If you wan't something, go ask for it, don't expect them to wait on you hand and foot people, they got their own lives. Also, the sourdough chicken fried steak is great as I'm a sucker for anything sourdough, however i've only had a sample off people's plates as I've never been able to take my mind off the burger. Everything else on the menu looks amazing and check our whatever speical exotics Fred is concocting. He is random and not scared.

Oh My Gosh! A new place - for me - to get a hunk of meat (hamburger, silly you). Oh it was cooked just right, the amount of grease was perfect and mmmmmm. And the fries - perfect! They are fresh cut and cooked daily. mmmmm. I'm salivating all over again. And how do you know when it is a really good burger? All conversation ceases and only 'mmmmmmm' or 'oh my' is heard 'round the table. Don't let them snatch your plate until you finish all the fries! This is one time I will not share. period. not at all and not for nobody. never. Dinky place but that merely adds to the charm. Crowded but step right and ask to have your name added to the list.
(5)Jeff S.
I consider myself a burger expert. This is, by far, the best burger in DFW. It is juicy, flavorful, etc. I have never had a burger anywhere that tasted as good as the burgers I make at home. This one did. Not only was the burger good but the taco fries were unbelievable. They are basically fries covered with taco meat and melted cheddar cheese. The perfect example of a heart attack on a plate. If you want the best burger DFW has to offer then Fred's is place you need to try.
(5)Angela G.
Yee-haw! Once you get past the shameful, stereotypical Texas decor, the food delivers. I've never had a bad meal here. When it's that time of year, you have to try Fred's chili. It is that good. The Diablo Burger is also one of my go-to favorites. Hell, even the nachos rock! Also, check out the daily specials.
(4)Roland M.
this should be 2 1/2 stars - i love the place, the atmosphere, the Food Network hype was keeping us away but I wanted to take a friend visiting from SFO to a place they do not have in the Bay Area. My friend had her first Chicken Fried Steak ever and she loved it! I had a taste of it and it was very good. The crust was flaky not at all greasy and the meat was flavorful and tender. She raved about the gravy and the Tabasco peppers on the table too, but we won't hold that against her goofy CA ass. My wife and I had the ribeye. The flavor was robust and the meat was fair. I had medium rare and the temp was spot on, but was probably a mistake because it got cold quick - especially when the place is tiny and the door keeps opening every 5 minutes. The Mrs. had it medium well and that was executed perfectly too. The pepper topping was unrecognizable, the server probably should have explained the entree a lil better since it was an off menu item. NOTE: No steak sauce nor Bbq sauce in this place at all. My wife suffered through that coz she is a dipper, but the trooper that she is she trudged on with her meal. My son got the Fred Burger and struggled with the jalapenos! He did finish it like a champ. BTW we started with bacon cheese fries and the calf fries. The cheese fries got raves and the rocky mountain oysters provided shock value and another experience for our friend to talk about. 2nd Note: NO DESSERTS in this place. Apparently they have no use for it as well as no mash taters. The tables are teeny and it is what they sell it as, the place is a dive. I think this place is better during warmer months when patio seating is not an extreme endeavor. To finish, the place is a good experience, a lil pricier than I would like and we will come back for their brunch whenit is warmer out.

What a WEAKASS burger! The only reason I gave this 2 stars was because our service was great. I don't know about you but having a burger and fries is a treat me for me. I don't have the time or calories to waste on a sub-par burger. I ordered the Big Fred with cheese with jalepeños, grilled onions, and bacon. Reasons my burger was weak: 1) The bread might as well not been there. Because the buns are thin, they aren't able to handle all of the fix-ins inside which caused almost all my bread to liquify and drop to my plate. I don't mind a messy burger, but this was almost impossible to manage, with all my delicious grilled onions spilling out! 2) Bacon. You like your bacon more chewy than a dog treat right? Wrong. Even though their menu says "crispy bacon", they clearly haven't mastered it. Life is too short for bacon that isn't crispy. 3) Cheese. This is of course my preference, but of all the people I know and have cooked for, I don't know ANYBODY who doesn't like their cheese melted. The cheese on this burger wasn't even SLIGHTLY melted. If you want melted cheese, than look elsewhere. 4) The meat: Have you ever had a burger that was so juicy that your mouth is just filled with liquid-meaty goodness? Nope not here. It wasn't the worst meat I've ever had, it was average. Slightly overcooked, no salt I could taste.... not the juicy wet dream I was looking for. 5) The fries WEAK. No seasoning but more importantly no crispiness! A fry HAS to have SOME level of crispness to it. This is America. There is no time for F@cking limp ass tasteless fries! 6) The price: I spent $16.75 on my burger!!!!!!!!!!!! FFFFUUUUUUUU! ~$17 for a weak or even AVERAGE burger? F That. I could of gone to In-n-out and gotten a double-double for less than $4! TLDR: Over priced. Underwhelming. Go somewhere else.

Fred's as a destination for tacos? YES! Fred's has aaahmazing blue cheese dressing? YES! My most recent visit to Fred's proved you may be missing out if you never deviate from the burgers. The pulled pork tacos were the best I've had in the metroplex. The housemade blue cheese dressing elevated an otherwise ordinary salad.

This place is great when you sit outside---if you have to sit inside, don't do it---it makes a huge difference. Food is good, but the environment is what makes this place so great.
(4)Nathan B.
One of the best kept secrets in Fort Worth! Go here for a burger you can brag about!
(5)Brad S.
If I was to take someone to one place in Texas to show them an accurate representation of the state, I would take them to Fred's. The small shack with big patio and live music is a great place to sit and waste away the weekends, a goblet of cold-ass-beer in hand. The food is great, too. They're known for the burgers, though I opted for the tilapia tacos that were on special for the day. Served al pastor-style with not-too-hot habanero salsa, it was simple and fresh, like everything Fred's does. As I was eating, I heard the manager talking to one of the customers about the long wait for the burgers (it was quite busy that day). He said that the only way they could make them any faster was to use frozen patties, and there's no way he would let that happen. It's a creed that other restaurants would be wise to follow.
(5)Jenny S.
This is exactly the kind of place I imagine stumbling upon on my future food road trip across america. It has that dive bar feel complete with outdoor seating, local beer, live music, friendly staff and interesting decor outside. Fred's Texas Cafe is a great example of places that have that "special something". I don't know about the hype surrounding this place as having "the best burger", but I had the pleasure of eating an immensely delicious chicken fried steak cooked to perfection. The fries were also really good. If you've ever had In-and-Out fries, they taste like giant versions of these. This is exactly the kind of meal I crave when I haven't been back to Texas in a while. We had a really nice evening here sitting outside, drinking, and listening to the live performance. The only minus was that the four of us ordered at the same time but our orders arrived within half an hour of each other. (and none at the same time) By the time the last order arrived the first person was done eating. Getting a table can also be tough on a saturday night like the one we went on, but it's worth the wait.
(5)Tom M.
If you are ever in or near Ft. Worth, Texas you must go to Fred's for lunch or even breakfast. Very rustic and coldass beer. The food is great!
(5)Marla K.
Man, the burgers here are RIDICULOUS! So good. I mean who wouldn't love a butter brushed bun! They have a great patio outside. Cool place for a quick lunch or a lazy happy hour!
(5)Bill E.
Recently I visited Fred's again, and as a result am updating my review. Let me say that if I had the option for 3 1/2 stars I might give them that. It is still better than the average burger. But at least based on that one day, it does not come close to the best ones in town (for me that includes Dutch's, Charlie's, Nicky D's, and Kincaid's minus their fries). I love when the waiter/waitress asks me how I would like my burger cooked. But when I finally get it and it is horribly wrong, it makes me wish they had never asked. When I have the choice, I always order my burgers medium (good steaks medium-rare, burgers medium). So as usual, that was my choice: medium. What I got instead was somewhere between medium-well and well-done. Completely brown all the way through, and bordering on dry. Also, the bun had so much grease spread all over it (outside too) that it made it very hard to hold the burger and eat it. You will never see me complaining about a burger being too greasy, but to slather that much oil on the outside of the bun, so that it makes it hard to hold it and eat it, is just silly. And the fries, while homemade, were soggy and limp. They need help with those. And the service was slow. They had remodeled the outside area since I was last there, so it feels bigger now, and has more seating. That was nice. I know I'll be back again. But it won't be because I just have to have a Fred's burger.

I love Fred's new patio! We haven't been here in a while and I was pleasantly shocked when we wandered under the canopys. There floor is freshly poured concrete and the wooden patio has been rebuilt with new (stronger!) wood. It was pouring down rain today in FTW - a rarity in August - but we stayed cool and dry out there. Rose and I shared a Fredburger with cheese and fries. It was greasily delicious. There wasn't any of that wonderful Willie Nelson playing this time, but that is forgivable.
(5)Lisa L.
Good burger n fun atmosphere but second time I've found hair in my food. I don't be back.
(3)Eric B.
Can't get any better than enjoying some live music, ice cold beer, and a Diablo Burger on the patio this time of year... definitley worth stopping by if you've never been.
(4)Foodie F.
One of our favorite DFW burger joints. We love the hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. The service is exceptional. And the Diablo Burger is a MUST! If you can't handle a little spice I wouldn't recommend it; however, you don't know what you're missing! We always sit outside and have enjoyed some of their live music.
(5)Kyle T.
Fred's cheeseburger was very good. I liked being able to sit by a large window and enjoy the outdoors. The fries were a little greasy but over all it was good.
(4)Ryan F.
I don't just hand out 5 stars to a lot of places, but I've got to for Fred's. In fact, this may be the time that makes me raise the bar for giving out 5 from here on out. Fred's is a beautiful piece of Americana. An amazing rustic dive in all senses of the connotation, Fred's is hidden amongst the developing West 7th scene, and hopefully, will never succumb to being anything else than what it is to look like the rest of the area. Seating is indoor or outdoor. Sit inside an enjoy a 1950s counter with the accompanying stools and a few televisions. Outside is wholly another scene. An outdoor bar and picnic tables, a stage for performers, and a quality sound system, you can hear performances at Fred's from the whole district and would be suited to stop in for a listen and to eat. The food. Wow. The food was plentiful for the prices, freshly put together, and the flavor profiles were perfect. I actually had the Mexican platter- a combination of Tex-Mex style pork, beef, and quail served with rice and beans, and squirts of sour cream. My friend had the Diablo burger. A burger that takes both hands to get a hold of and dripping with cheese and spicy barbecue sauce. The food was awesome, especially when accompanied by a couple beers. Fred's nearly requires a trip if you are in the area, you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to do so.
(5)T J.
Atrocious service always. But the food is as tasty as everyone says.
(3)Dan C.
Great spot....the best burgers.....Bloody Marys and Margs are pretty solid as well.
(5)Robert K.
Great burgers! Great atmosphere!! It is an old small bar/burger joint surrounded by new modern construction! A FT Worth classic!! Love this town!
(5)Jimmie H.
The Diablo Burger is absolutely incredible. First, the patty is made from choice beef and cooked to perfection and then they add chipotle peppers, grilled onions, Swiss cheese, and all the normal fixin's. This is definitely one of the best burgers in Fort Worth and that's why they were featured on the Food Network. The only disappointing thing for us is the environment. They only have limited inside seating near their bar and the outside seating isn't very comfortable with our Texas heat, but you can hear some great music. I've gotta hand it to them though that they are hanging on to their history kicking and screaming as the rest of the improvements continue around the W. 7th area.
(4)Joe M.
This place is so awesome. Stop reading this and go there now. Great food and people. Live music. Huge patio. Get a burger!
(5)Susan K.
We went here because we saw this on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives for a really late night dinner, the good thing is that it is open late and has some live music playing. The drinks are super huge here, they are about 32 oz cup drinks. We got the chicken tacos and the bacon cheese jalapeno nachos. The tacos were surprisingly pretty good, they only come with a small side of salsa and jalapeno though, and you have pay more to have some extra sides. The nachos were pretty good, really huge (two people could easily share it and have leftovers). The calf fries, I need to warn you, are calf balls. Just beware.

I heard about Fred's from a local tv show called foodies.. I happened to be in the area (2 miles away) and thought I'd stop off for dinner. Fred's has the best bleu cheese burger in the Metroplex. While the other burger places will put a small sprinkle of bleu cheese, or worse, use bleu cheese dressing (yo! dressing is for SALADS!), or mixed in with barbecue sauce and other things, Fred's puts a generous helping of real bleu cheese on his burger, plain and simple. good grilled taste, not too much filler ( lettuce, tomatoe..)The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere lively when they have a live band. Good value for price. Location is a bit difficult to get to and parking is scarce.
(4)Honora P.
We were in the area to go to the Kimbell art museum and the Yelp app recommended this joint. Little did I know how good it would be. It definitely seems like a locals place. The tiny (like holds maybe 10 cars) parking lot was packed so we had to find parking on the surrounding streets which was also difficult. That said, it was well worth it. We ate indoors to avoid the heat and found out (about 1/2 way through our meal) that Guy Fieri (Diners Drive-Ins and Dives) had been there and we were sitting just under his signature. I would have liked to eat outdoors as they had live music, but it was just too hot. Everyone there was friendly and the service was upbeat. The place was PACKED on a Saturday afternoon so we were lucky to get 2 seats at the bar. We each ordered burgers. I had the BBQ Cheddar burger, he had the Bacon Swiss burger. The burgers were yummy and had a nice assortment of toppings and sauces on them. I LOVED the fries - they were the kind that really taste like potatoes. (hand cut I think) I really tend to be one of those people who prefers a slightly thicker burger and cooked to temperature (m. rare) which you will not find here. But, taking into consideration the style of burger they were making, I thought they were very tasty and had lots of flavor. If I am ever back in the area I would definitely consider going back here and maybe trying one of the menu items they are more "known" for (apparently their chicken fried steak is top notch).
(4)Chance M.
Get your napkins ready! Juicy, medium rare, house burger, flat top grilled to perfection! Slightly seasoned and the juice covers the bun and all the toppings. Don't put it down otherwise you may need a fork! Love it but be prepared to pay. The bacon, mushroom burger with fries is 13.95! Our tab for 4 with tip was 72.00! It's great and now my Dad's favorite burger joint, but holy hell it's expensive for burgers. I'm not sure he knew how much we paid, otherwise we may have been at In N Out. Haha! We'll be back I'm sure. 4 1/2 out of 5 experience!
(4)Shana L.
It's not always easy to find a parking spot or an open table, but their burger is so delicious it's worth the trouble!
(5)Michelle D.
We went there bc it was on one of our fav shows, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives... It was busy even though we came in the 2pm hour thinking the rush would be over. We were very lucky to get a seat... our server didn't introduce himself but while still walking asked if we wanted a drink. He also took our lunch order while looking at other tables and scratching what we said down...thats prob why my food came out wrong. It took over 30 min to get our food when I ordered a chicken sandwich and my date chicken tacos...both of our food came out with out the specifications we asked for, but after the wait I was just desperate for a bite! Our server had a cigarette in his ear and enjoyed a smoke right outside the window in front of our table, cute. Alright, good people watching....bad fries (not a lick of seasoning) and an okay sandwich. One fun entertainment aspect was that the ladies bathroom door did not lock, we could have warned the five people that got walked in on during the 1 1/2 visit, but it was just too fun. Guy Fieri, you missed it with this one...

This is a very simple choice.......do you want a burger.....wait not just an ordinary burger but an exceptional burger? Does the thought of the BEST cheese fries....dripping with real melted cheese, smokey bacon bits, sauteed onions and jalapenos dipped in ranch dressing get your mouth watering??? Fred's is a BURGER joint and they do other items well. If your a Pinkies-Up latte sipping Lexus driving Dallas Uber-Prince/Princess then I might suggest you nance on down to your local Dallas valet parking/Super Expensive/Sushi-Faux Gras Elite eatery instead of slumming over to Fort Worth and risk dirtying your SMU Cheer sweater. (Muffy....he is insulting us!!!) Tarrant County enjoys some of the BEST burger joints in the country from Tommy's to Nicky-D's to Kincaids to Freds......Yes the parking is a pain, yes its small inside and yes the burgers and cheese fries are worth the hassle. There is plenty of parking along 7th Street and plenty of shopping to be done in the Old Wards building. Fred's is a great joint and a fun experience.......errr unless you are from Dallas and just had a mani-pedi and your squeamish about taking your Jag too far from the dealership. Life's too short to Live in Dallas!
(5)Jaye R.
Freds is the best place in town, 2nd only to Freds north and the bait shack. The patio is always rocking and open rain or sun. (or snow this is Texas) The new patio has additional bathrooms and seating. Burgers are by far the best but you cant go wrong with the chicken fried steak either.
(5)Lyle B.
Legendary establishment that the W. 7th Corridor has been built around, Fred's has great burgers and cold ass beer. There's even a Portobello burger for those, still quite hearty. They also have sensational servers with a lot of personality found in a great environment that encourages conviviality. The Sunday Brunch offers some delicious options. Less a criticism than a curiosity, I would like a side-by-side volume assessment of the Mimosas: one in the giant (indoor) schooner and the other in the plastic (outdoor) cup. They don't seem like they should cost the same (6$). But my respect for the music they put on that stage prevented me from making a stink.

We had a couple hours to kill before flying home from Dallas, so my friends and I made our way out to Ft Worth to check out Fred's. We found it a little odd to see where it was located; you'll know what I'm talking about when you go. We walked in to find that it was packed. We had to wait about 20 minutes to get seated. I looked around while we waited and I could tell this was one of those places where locals frequented. Some even had Fred's T-shirts on. And to top it all off, NFL games were on TV. Needless to say, I felt right at home. Even before we arrived at Fred's, my mind was pre-set on the rib eye I had seen on DDD. Upon perusing the menu, however, I freaked out a bit because I didn't see it anywhere on there. So I asked about the rib eye and I was assured they did have it, but that they didn't have the veggies that usually come with it. Are you kidding me?! Believe you me, I did not go to Texas looking for VEGETABLES. Steak and potatoes are fine by me! The rib eye was full of flavor. In fact, it had too much flavor. The grilled onions were fine, but what I think were chipotles on the rib eye, along with the other seasoning, made the overall taste too salty and peppery for me. I actually ended up not finishing the steak, which was a huge bummer. But it was still good. I requested the cheese fries w/ my steak, and I can assure you they don't skimp out on the cheese. It was flooded with cheese... just how I like it! I devoured that sucker in no time. My friend's chicken fried steak was good; I liked the batter and the taste of it. My other friend ordered the Diablo burger, but I didn't get to try it because I was too full. But she said it was good (though a bit spicy), so I'll take her word for it. Overall, it's not a bad hole-in-the-wall joint. 3 1/2 stars. (Yelp really needs to give 1/2 star rating options.)
(3)Michelle L.
I LOVE Fred's! If you want a great, greasy burger, this is the spot for you! It is the definition of a "dive" restaurant; although, they just remodeled the outdoor patio so it appears nicer now. The best time of year to get a burger is during Hatch Green Chile season. They have a burger that has a green chile enchilada on top of the burger! It is absolutely to die for! All of the other burgers are great, as well. Definitely would recommend it for a greasy, delicious burger and an ice cold beverage!
(5)Jeremy B.
Over the top portions and delicious!
(5)Prentiss E.
Directions: Pick a nice Texas afternoon. Go to Fred's. Sit on the patio. Enjoy the live music. Order a beer and the Diablo Burger. Eat. Drink. Enjoy your afternoon. Wonder how you ever lived without Fred's. It's that simple. And the burgers are really that good. Really.
(5)Stephanie D.
Excellent Diablo burger!! I didnt really like the staff at first, we were ignored at the bar and had to ask for service ( they werent even busy). Fries were too greasy ( but I am a very picky ff person). Wish they would sell the burgers and fries seperately, I would just order the burger, no ff. Price is a little steep, but I will probably give it another try for the great burger.
(3)Rico I.
Yummy. My gawd. Shame on you if you miss this burger. Medium rare. Un petit mort dans la bouche.
(5)Glenn S.
Dallas folks: you know I love my burgers, right? When I had a reason to go to Fort Worth, I couldn't resist the opportunity to taste a burger that the masses deemed worthy of recognition. My schizo mind debated Love Shack and Fred's with this little local gem tipping the scales. Sadly, the results were mixed. Fred's screams atmosphere, especially on a Saturday where TCU faithful need a place to cheer on the Frogs as they attempt to upset the BCS apple cart. Despite that, we only waited about 15 minutes at dinner time. The eventual dining experience was almost as Texan as any that I have had since moving here but ultimately disappointed when the cowchips had all been counted. Cold-ass beer? My schooner of Blue Moon perfectly echoed this sign behind the bar! Cheese fries? OMG!!! These caused my taste buds to rejoice and my digestive system to recoil. Screw my innards! They need to suck it up. The sheer joy of these fries rightfully took command and destroyed my digestion for days. Who cares? They were awesome!! So have you noticed that I have skirted the issue of the burger until now? I don't want to make any Horned Frog blood boil but the signature dish here was merely average. Actually, the patties themselves tasted as if they were prepared by the Wade Phillips of the culinary world. Underperforming to the point of embarrassment! Seriously, the additions to our burgers kicked the crap out of the taste of the meat!! Please tell me that this was an off-day. Flavorless and overcooked is no way to live your life, son! I am giving 3 stars based on the experience and the fries. I consider this generous. Please tell me that there really is something that should have happened to warrant 5 stars from Yelp reviewers and accolades from the DMN as "best in class".
(3)Robert G.
We went Sunday 12/23/12, had been before during the summer when sitting outside resulted in excess liquid consumption. This visit the patio was totally enclosed for the winter and there was live music, but the food was the same. Fredburger with cheese and a frosty Shiner Bock. The burgers are good, but the fries could use a second trip to the deep frier to crisp them up......a little greasy. But this is Fred's, a Texas dive in the best tradition. Places like Fred's are not as easy and plentiful to find as they once were, and Fred's is smack dab in the middle of the west-end revitalization of Fort Worth. Put it on your list of places to visit!
(4)Danielle F.
I seriously love Fred's. I love it all the more as it continues to be dwarfed and consumed by runaway construction of new and flashy businesses in the West 7th Development. It has real character and that make it stand out in its new neighborhood, for sure! I don't do meat but Fred's has a pretty mean portobello burger - I get it topped with melted bleu. Heavenly. My hubs has sampled all the best burgers in FW (Kincaid's, Tommy's, M&O Grill, etc.) and still declares Fred's are on top. The hand-cut fries are delicious. Live music, cold beers, a lovely patio - Fred's just wins.
(5)david h.
Great ambience. Hole in the wall right smack dab in the middle of a multi-million dollar development. Burgers looked great. I had a ribeye with cheese enchiladas, rice and beans. The steak was good, the enchiladas were great and the beans best ever. Would go back but with the understanding that this is primarily a burger joint. Smiley face

Okay, Fred's has been on my to-try list forever (seriously- forever!). I have been hesitant to go only because sometimes my husband can be a bit- well, tough on places he hasn't been before. We got there at around lunch time on a Sunday. It was a bit difficult to find a place to park (all of the fancy garages around it had "no Fred's customers parking" signs all over them). We finally got in and then waited for about 45 minutes for a booth. I was able to jam to some old school Johnny Cash and give the evil eye to people chatting it up in their booth lonnnnng after they were finished eating. Who does that? When we got sat down- we were then brought the largest drinks ever (which we were thankful for with the 110 degree temps outside). The dr. pepper tasted a bit off (I had wondered if maybe it was mr pibb??? Anyway- we both liked our burgers and fries. I wish they were a bit more cooked (the fries), but I love super crispy fries. It was a smidge pricy (I am cheap!), but it was worth it for something fresh and made on the spot. Next time I am trying their chicken fried steak.
(5)An N.
There were to places, open outside with a live band playing or the more cramped bar inside. Got the bacon burger, the food was a little messy and greasy for my taste. Country fried chicken was huge! It also comes with large salad as well.
(3)Ana W.
Dare I say it? The french fries at McDonald's are tastier and seem more fresh (and this is coming from a vegetarian who rarely says anything nice about fast food establishments). I LOVE that Fred's is an Institution here in Fort Worth, and that it's crowded by regulars who seem to know everyone who works there. I also love the live music, and outdoor/indoor seating offerings. And the Beer! The beer comes in ice cold goblets, (HUGE goblets), which are overflowing and hit the right spot. I also want to add that these goblets are quite heavy, at least for me, and I needed two hands just to pick it up! OK, so let's talk more about the food. Meh, I've had better. As I mentioned before, the french fries were awful. I had a portabella burger...the portabella patty was fine, but the bread was thin and bland. My boyfriend had the infamous "Diablo" burger, which he also said was mediocre. And expensive (over $10 for bland...lame). I don't think I'll ever crave the food here, but I know I'll be back for their beer and music.
(3)Hillary W.
I learned about something I've never heard of before - Chuck wagon cooking - from the owner himself (pst his name is Terry... his dog was the namesake for his restaurant). The food is greasy, the music is great, and until the yuppie upscale developments started to overtake the blocks around Fred's Cafe, the clientele used to be bikers, off duty police, and the occasional cowboy and cowgirl. Although I love Fred's, I hope they can relocate somewhere better suited for his clientele!

This is THE place to be. We had such a good time: awesome live bands, friendly people, patio w/ no chairs matching, funny servers, fantastic atmosphere! Came here for the chicken fried steak and quail & eggs but they were all out. Settled w/ the Diablo burgers and bacon cheese fries. Out. Of. This. World. The burger was melting in my mouth. FYI I had a 14 oz. steak before this, but I still could not resist the burger. That's how good it was. Met some of the sweetest Texans who shared the table. They bought us a round of Orange Tic Tac shots, which was my first and beginning of more to come. The burgers took a while to be out. If you're smart enough you order them right at the bar when you ordered the alcohol, which we didn't know. We bought the beers, wait to find an empty table, wait for the server to order, then wait for the burgers to come. But it was never a dull moment. The band kept people entertaining, and the alcohol kept coming ... lol

I am usually not a wimpy flower type but while rolling through the shanty town side of the Stockyards while running some errands with my Daddy I was hoping his Escalade was bullet proof. I had no idea where he was taking me for lunch when he said to look for a "red plywood shack".... I was actually relieved when we rolled into the Yuppified neighborhood of the new cultural district! This is not my type of food place - I like to eat healthy locally sourced food and usually do not drink beer.. So, why am I given them 5 stars? 1. I had an awesome adventure with my Daddy 2. My Daddy could not stop making yummy moans over his burger and fries - I tasted both and both are swoon worthy.. 3. So happy the Tilapia Tacos were the special when we were there - they were fantastic! 4. Draft Beer in frozen goblets! 5. Our Waitress who kept calling me "Darlin" and told me I could bring my dog anytime.. 6. Huge dog friendly patio with live music!!
(5)Le E.
we visited fred's a few weeks ago, after hearing the triple D stopped here on their FW tour. i guess its one of those places in FW that everyone's been to, but us. we felt like burgers on a saturday, and did it. i like the vibe of the place, it seemed like everyone knew everyone. there was this guy that looked like he was wearing some sort of dutch "i'm gonna climb a mountain" outfit on. i dig it. i ordered the famous diablo burger and my husband ordered a good ol' cheese burger. and i went for it...i ordered...the taco fries. oh man, did it look dangerous when we got it. even my husband was scared. i liked by burger, i think there was a lot going on, but i enjoyed it. i felt my arteries clogging just looking at the fries.
(3)Doug S.
Sent back first two burgers. Over cooked and dry. Waiting for second try. On second try better cooked then first ones not great for 9 dollars with ok tasting fries.. Manager tried to make it better the service was great and they are very friendly. . Over rated. will not go back to eat. They do have cold beer it cost 6.25 also a little high.
(2)Roman M.
Fred's is a bit of an anomaly. It sits in the middle of a street that's getting swallowed up by higher priced condos- yet it finds a way to remain true to it's roots. Fred's gained national attention on the Food Network program Diner's, Drive-Ins, and Dives. In fact, that was my introduction to this place. I was taken in by the divy campiness of the joint and what appeared to be scratch-made food. Fred's is a little pricey for what you get. However, you won't leave disappointed. There is always a wait - every time I've been there at least. Just walk in and write your name down on the list. There's no reason to wait for someone to do it for you - that's not what Fred's is about. Fred's is a real celebration of what makes Ft. Worth great. Warm people making simple food for the masses. I'd recommend the tacos and the burgers (the Diablo is a winner) Oh... and the beer is COLD. That seals the deal.
(4)Charlsie W.
This is exactly what I'm looking for in a burger joint. I loved the diablo burger! The flavor was perfect. Fries were also perfect! There was even live music that was enjoyable (sometimes it can be distracting). Atmosphere is so perfect! Helpful & fun waitstaff`~ very well trained I might add .It was divey and great! A pretentious burger is just silly. Our favorite burger in the D/FW area!
(5)Juliann P.
Best. Burger. Ever. I love this place and go way too often. Wait staff is no-nonsense & attentive. Locally brewed Rahr on tap in frosty schooners. Stellar gold-sparkly booths inside, great atmosphere!
(5)Michelle G.
So the only reason why I went here was cause I trusted my boss and coworkers who said this place had awesome burgers and I'd been craving a nice juicy burger all day so I was definitely up to going out to eat after work, but this place definitely sucked :( First off good luck finding parking, your more than likely going to be parking in rape alley down the street, and don't plan on sitting inside if you have more then 4 people who are really comfortable with eacother unless your stick skinny their booths are SMALL. So service was pretty alright it took a while for someone to come ask for our drinks but it wasn't too bad, and the waitress came around enough to keep the drinks coming so that was fine. But oh my god my burger SUCKED not only did they get my order wrong it was sooo dry and tasteless, I wouldn't have finished it if I hadn't been starving, the only saving point was the fries which were pretty good but then again I've still had better. Oh and seriously 16 bucks for a burger, fries and a drink is absolutely ridiculous I've had way bigger and tastier burgers and fries for half that price, I don't think I'll be going back.
(1)John B.
Going forward, when dining at Fred's, I will likely order the chicken fried steak exclusively. The portion is more than ample, and the salad that precedes the entree could just about be a meal itself. The steak has a wonderfully crispy crust, and the gravy that covers it has an earthy, tan color that evidences the fact that the cooks use the renderings from the steak to make the gravy (Emeril Lagasse calls these the "Yum Yums" for good reason). Fred's has many excellent options on the menu, but I think I know where my palate will lead me in the future.

First Sunday Funday brunch in FTW and my friends insisted on Fred's. I would give it 3.5 stars (which rounds to 4) and would love to go back for one of these infamous burgers to bump it up that 1/2 star. 4 stars for the environment: We sat on the patio and it sort of felt like we were in someone's backyard and it was pretty hot (could use a couple of fans) but still a cool environment. There was a guy on stage playing Texas Country music covers (and he was actually good at it, which wins my heart) and was just the perfect volume to enjoy the music but still carry on a conversation with friends. 3 stars for the food: Three of four of us ordered the migas and they looked average. I ordered the two eggs & sausage plate that came with potatoes, a biscuit and gravy. The eggs, sausage and potatoes were average. The biscuit was chewy and the gravy was bland, but I ate them because they were a little overpriced and I wanted to get my money's worth. I ordered a bloody mary because one of my friends already had one and I thought it looked good, but was WAY over-seasoned and I couldn't tell if there was even any vodka in it. However, the location completely made up for the mediocre food, being in my new epicenter of fun and food. I'm thinking I'll be back for a greasy burger the next time I have a little too much fun and wake up hungover...

After testing out a LOT of places, my husband and I both agree that Fred's has the best burgers in town hands down. We've been there quite a few times now and it's great every time! The patio is our favorite place to sit, there is usually live music. The atmosphere is very laid back and friendly and the waitstaff is very friendly as well. It gets really busy and can be hard to find a table on the weekends!

I recently moved to Ft.Worth and some friends took me to Fred's my first weekend out here and I remember thinking, "if this is what Ft.Worth is like I think I'm going to be just fine". It makes you feel like you should be in Austin, not in the middle of the 7th street development. The burgers are amazing, the beer is cold and the live music doesn't get better. I have a friend in town this weekend and we're trying brunch at Fred's...I hope my 2nd visit is as great as my first!

I really liked this place but my burger....Was just OK.. Has a really nice dive barish feeling to it and I feel right at home with that. Good indoor/outdoor setting in a nice locale. If you go...get the CFS. I had a few bites of MeganM's and needless to say the inside of my shorts looks just like that cream gravy in the pic....Seriously I PROMISE its that good. Share it because its Texas portion but oooooffffffff. Damn its good. Some fellas at the bar bought me a beer for making them laugh. My kind of place

Great atmosphere, very Ft Worth. Almost half the patrons were wearing boots, hats, and Wranglers, and drove up in trucks that clearly carry tack and hay through muddy fields on the regular. Oh, and the burger was pretty good too. Huge, greasy, and a delicious mess. Prepare for the itis; maybe laze around at the Water Gardens or the rear veranda at the Kimball afterwards.

My only regret about Fred's Texas Cafe is that I didn't come here sooner. This place is amazing! Driving up, it's located behind a really trendy new shopping center. It seems like the kind of area where developers would try to buy the land and force them out, but thankfully, this has not happened. You see, Fred's has character, which is so lacking from most other places. You can go inside, but the real action is on the enormous patio outside. They have a variety of picnic tables and backyard furniture for you to sit on, and it's not very clear how you're supposed to order (at the bar). To put it tactfully, the crowd here is...not diverse. But my diverse group felt more than welcome, and everyone working there was very friendly, as well as the other patrons. Because of the picnic table setup, it's not hard to strike up conversation with complete strangers here. Based on the atmosphere, we didn't know what to expect from the food. It seems like the type of place where you might be better off getting something fried or a burger, but we were pleasantly surprised to find that all of the food was delicious. I had the chicken quesadilla, and my friends had the chicken club sandwich, the chicken fried steak with country gravy, and the ribeye steak with enchiladas, rice, and beans. I couldn't believe how good EVERYTHING was. Honestly, the enchiladas, rice, and beans were delicious, better than I'm used to at a regular Mexican restaurant, and those were just the sides that came with the steak. I would gladly order them as a meal if I came again. The quesadilla was awesome, really crispy on the outside, with just the right amount of filling. The chicken fried steak was enormous, bigger in area than my face, and wonderfully crispy. Even the gravy was great. Everyone was very happy with their food. Even though the portions seemed enormous, the food was so good that we all cleaned our plates and didn't even feel guilty about it. Even the live music was good! It was so good that one of my friends even bought the band's CD. I highly recommend Fred's, particularly the patio on a warm night. It would also be a great place to bring out-of-towners who want that *real* Texas feel. I can't wait to go back, and my main problem with this place is that there are too many amazing choices for what to order, making it difficult to decide.

If you are going to Fred's for the first time, get the cheeseburger (or the Diablo burger). It's greasy and delicious and the fries are awesome too. I've eaten a lot of burgers in the DFW area and Fred's are the best. After you've recovered from the cheeseburger, go to Fred's on a weekend for brunch and try the quail and eggs. awesome. Simply awesome. Added bonuses: great atmosphere, good bar, good friendly service and always good Texas Roots music on the juke box.

Fort Worth's Best Burgers & Cold Ass Beer - pretty much sums up Fred's. Totally a dive-y place that attracts a very eclectic crowd (super fun for people watching), burger connoisseurs and music fans alike. Great for Texas music (country / rock / whatever). Ladies, be prepared to wait for the restroom (there's always a line it seems). I prefer to dine outside (where the music is) especially in the spring and fall. During the summer they have fans and umbrellas but you're gonna sweat (the cold beer can only do so much). The burgers are huge & amazing so head on over and enjoy!

Cheap cold beer, amazing burgers and live music. Nothing screams Texas like Fred's.

A co-worker and a fellow ex-Chattanoogan all happened to be in Dallas this Wednesday. We took a drive over to Fort Worth to try the famous Fred's Texas Cafe as seen on the "All Kinds of Classics" Episode of D3. We started with the fry appetizer which came with fresh roasted chipoltes, plenty of cheese, and quality bacon. The fries themselves where the fresh cut variety which are difficult to get light and crispy, but they did a decent job on these. You also don't normally see such tasty bacon on such a dish, but they used thick cut, crisp, and large bits of flavorful bacon to good advantage. My entree also came with the same as a side, but the entree's side wasn't as crisp nor did it have the same bacon generosity as the appetizer version. Two of us had the Diablo burger which had a generous portion of red chipotles that had a flavor as if roasted with a touch of BBQ-sauce since I could pick up a hint of tomato-y sweetness. This was definitely the hottest item of the evening and will really put the hurt on anyone not acclimated to spicy foods. One of our party had the rib eye steak which is also given a spicy treatment and they turned red with the intensity. They shared a bite but I found it considerably milder than the burger, but I'm also used to fiery foods. The steak itself was incredibly thick and tender and cooked to perfection. The burgers were also thick and delicious. Even mid-week the restaurant was very busy but we'd gotten lucky and snagged a booth without much trouble. The crowd did mean that it took a long time to get our food, although the appetizer came out quickly and refills weren't an issue, so it's more an issue of the small kitchen's capacity. It's a seat-yourself affair and the large outdoor patio with live music was also at near capacity. We also had to fight for parking and the parking garage on the neighboring block is strictly off-limits for Fred's customers, so get there early to grab a nearby alley curb. The prices are a bit high, but it's definitely worth a return visit. I would probably get a different burger as the spice somewhat stole the meat's thunder, and I'd get a different side if getting the fry appetizer.

Service kinda sucks (the girl was an utter BITCH, the dude was cool), tables and booths are adorably vintage but tattered and filthy, fries were cold. Burger was ok, the veggies on it were fresh. The chili was awesome! The beer was cold...I love the decor and the ambiance. I would love to come back and sit on the patio one day.

It's really as good as a burger can get... I'm reviewing this place, and to be fair I will also review any competing burger joints in the area I have tried. To be fair, I have to snicker a bit... because as far as I'm concerned there's no competition. These burgers are so tasty, that you just need to go try them... seriously, log off the internet, put down your mobile device, whatever electronic device you're reading this review on please turn off and put away. Order a cold beer and choose between a classic Fred-Burger, Diablo Burger with roasted Chipotle peppers, Chili Verde burger with sauteed Hatch Chile peppers... or my perennial favorite, the patty-melt. Wrapped in crisp yet buttery texas toast, this is the pure way to get the idea of just how good these patties are. I get mine with freshly sliced grilled jalepenos. Why are you still reading this?... go to Fred's NOW!

This place is a big YES. Hands down great grub. And the atmosphere was mighty fine. We ordered burgers and they were really good. Its hard to find a good tasting meat patty these days and these guys are definately using the right meat. It just has that pure unadulterated burger flavor that is so hard to find these days. They were Texas size burgers of love that you just wanna double fist untill every last morsel has been devoured. The draft beer is served in frozen goblets. I had the bud light and it was definatley worth it, as always. The service was also really good and the waitress in the cut off jeans and cowbow boots with tatoos that seductively disapeared up the back of each thigh was very hot. Like the cowgirl avril levine but more filled out and better looking... no scary eyeliner either. Darlin, if your readin this, hit me up and come visit me in LA. I'll treat you right, like the edgy Texas corn fed princess that you are. If your married, just tell your hubby you're going with your girlfriends to a tupperware convention for the weekend and I'll have a ticket waiting for you at DFW.

The joint was busy for a mid afternoon on Friday, filled with big belly middle age men, cowboy boots and stetsons, sneakers and shorts, tatooed girl, grade school kids w/ their parents, C&W music, everyone seems to know everyone. I ordered the bacon mushroom burger which was awesome, meat was cooked just right, covered with portabello mushroom and swiss cheese, and just enough bacon. It went down perfectly with my ice cold Blue Moon in a frozen globet. Saw a food network logo there, I think Guy Fieri from Diners/Drive ins/Dives was there. Would have gave them 4 stars, but Jonathan screwed me and charged me full price on my drink, what's up with that? no happy hour for non locals? I even gave you a extra fat tip, guess I should have looked at the check, but I figured it's a friendly neighborhood establishment, and I was running late to catch my flight, so thanks buddy, you suck. I still recommend the place, just double check your bill before you pay.
(3)Reena D.
We saw this cafe on food network so we wanted to try it out. I am not sure what the hype was all about. The famous tacos were good but I've had better. My husband got the steak and it was very peppery but the sauce on top was tasty. The atmosphere is really cute though and the area around has developed alot so you could walk around after eating here. I will give it a second try.
(3)Packy L.
Great huevos rancheros, hatch chilis were on the menu when I was there and totally worth it. Definitely recommended for breakfast on a hungry morning.
(5)Bobby M.
I brought my dog and ordered on the patio. I have been to this location with my dog about 4 times before. I really like the food although I think they are little expensive for a burger. They served me my burger and then told me I could not have the dog on the patio. Why didn't they tell me before I ordered? I emailed the owner and to ask why the change in policy. He never bothered to answer my email. I won't go back.

Ok, You may think that I am star happy and giving 5 stars to most of the places I review, or maybe I just go to great places to review! This is definitely the "Texas Style" Cheeseburger I have been looking for my entire life, and I grew up 30 minutes away! The Diablo Burger tasted like Texas! Beefy, juicy, with a kick! The juice stays in your mouth where it belongs, not on your shirt! I upgreaded my fries to the Cheese and bacon fries. Topped with So much Bacon it oinked, and just as much cheddar cheese and grilled onion. AMAZING! I washed it all down with one of the best "well" tequila margarita's I have ever had for under $5! This little joint has a very dive bar, and local Ft. Worth feel. You don't have your own waitress, because EVERYIONE in the joint from the bartender to the busboy don't pass your table without asking how you are and if you need anything! They make you feel like you have been a part of their "bar Family" since opening day, even if this is your first trip... Just go and get a Diablo burger, Cheese fries and a margaritaa and see for yourself!!! Take your kids, but make sure they are old enough to go into a bar with you, and are hungry! No kids menu here, and the helpings truly are TEXAS size! Search YouTube or Foodnetwork.com for the video featuring this joint on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives!

A classic that hopefully will not be ruined by the yuppiefication of the surrounding neighborhood. This is one of my favorite places to go in Fort Worth, and is always on the list to take out of towners. Fred's is unique in that not only is it a perfect beer joint, with ice cold beer, asleep at the wheel on the jukebox, and interesting folks, but the food is wonderful. The Diablo Burger is addictive, the CFS is authentic, and the steaks are great. Lord please keep Fred's the same. If you are one of those condo dwellers just moving in, don't f it up. Go over to the Monkey Wards Building and find a place there.
(5)Aaron R.
Tips for Freds: Dont go here if you are in a rush to do anything. If you want to eat inside get on "the list" as soon as you enter. Order yourself a shiner and a fred burger and enjoy!
(4)Noel A.
Awesome food, awesome atmosphere, awesome music and awesome service. I had the patty melt here and fell in love with it. It is the best patty melt around and also my buddies had burgers and a steak and they all said the food was amazing. They usually have live music on their huge porch and it is a great place to catch lunch or an after work beer and burger. I have heard they have a great Sunday brunch as well.
(5)Lisa H.
Service can be slow but that is due to it being a small grill not the cooks fault And well worth the wait ! The patio is the place to be live music most nights . And the owners Terry and Jennifer are great people they support local music and the local mountain bike clubs . I always go for the cold beer and Diablo burger . This is the place to go for a great BUGER AND BEER !

It seems to take me about a gazillion years to finally get to the places that I have been wanting to try for a while. After a recommendation by a bartender at Lola's Saloon and the promise of fantastic fried pickles, I added Fred's to my list of musts. Soon, I found myself with the predicament of seeing Fred's on the Food Network. Predicament how you ask? Well, I figured that any shot I had of going to Fred's was going to be doused with hoards of people and possibly unfortunate service. I was wrong and pleasantly surprised. The husby got off work early on a Saturday and after much hymning and hawing, we were on our way. At like noon. Not smart, right? Wrong! We arrived just in time to beat the rush of lunch time diners and grabbed the last spots on the tiny bar. Hurrah! We made it! Brian, the bartender, server and all around hustle man was swamped with orders and beer. But within a few minutes of our arrival he had two cold ass beers placed in front of us. Not only that, but he gave me two tasters of the beers I had questions about on tap. Super friendly and great service if you ask me. The burgers were what we had come to Fred's for, and the burgers are what we got. I ordered up the bleu cheese and my man got the regular (he's not fancy). The fries were definitely home made and tasty. My burger was OK, but I liked the regular one better! My burger wasn't super thick, but it was bigger than my bun. Unfortunately, Massey, the cook I was looking for who makes the fried pickles (not on the menu) was not working that day, so it was a no go. However, we enjoyed our meals and beers and the people watching, as well as the conversations with our neighbors at the bar. Fred's definitely has a comfortable, friendly feel to it. They often have bands playing, and a large patio to sit at when it's not a million degrees outside. There was a constant stream of people coming in the door and they tended to crowd the front (the place is really small), making it difficult to get out the door and parking is minimal, but other than that, a great place to grab a burger and hang out with people you just met.
(4)Lili A.
WE had the most awesome burgers here and smothered taco fries!!! Sat outside & enjoyed the live music from Fish Fry Bingo band....a hillbilly jug band from Texas, very interesting to say the least! Lady next to me suggested their grilled portabella burger, might try next time.

I LOVE THIS PLACE.... Best of 2010 Weekly magazine brought me here about a month ago. First experience was the best cuz restaurant was practically empty, no waiting line. I won't complain about the waiting knowing this is a really good place. I had fred's burger and blue cheese burger. Both were delish! Cook to perfection, nice and juicy, not to mention their fresh-cut fries are super! AND they have sriracha hot sauce on every table.... as an Asian, that's a total bonus point. My bf and I are fans! PS: they won't serve hamburger til 1 PM on Sundays :)
(5)Tara L.
Went to Fred's for lunch today - got there at noon on a Sunday craving a tasty cheeseburger in light of a lot of wine last night (yes, another stellar night at Silver Fox - thanks for never letting me down!). It's brunch-only at Fred's until 1:00pm. So we left. Other people were leaving, too, which indicates to me that maybe brunch isn't a great idea. Since I was about to eat the heads off small children, we headed to the Flying Fish for a little something to tide us over till 1:00. I'll review that in a minute. We went back to Fred's - got there at 1:00, and learned it takes 30 minutes for the kitchen to turn over from brunch. I'm not too hungry at this point, so whatever. I got to see the arse-crack of one of the waitresses, and that didn't do this place any favors, either - even if she was a cute girl. I had a 1/4 burger and split fries with the boyfriend. Burger was good. Not a taste explosion or anything like that - the cheese was gooey and that was worth some bonus points. The fries were okay - thicker cut like I like, but no seasoning to it. The table behind us ended up with a long hair in their burger. That's a nice touch. I really don't see what the hubbub is about.

I'm ashamed that I have lived in Fort Worth for nearly a decade and I just now got around to visiting Fred's. This is my new favorite burger spot, but they have so much more on the menu that I can't wait to try. Featured on Diner's Drive ins & Dives, this restaurant gives you a piece of old Fort Worth in a lively new part of town. It has the atmosphere of an old west saloon and comes complete with a patio and live music. The Diablo burger was the only option for me. It was a massive 1/2 lb burger with chipotle and union topped with swiss cheese. It was the perfect amount of spice. Enough to get your blood pumping without making your heart stop and your lips bleed. It takes a little while for the food to come out as they don't make the patty until you order it, but it's well worth the wait. There's also a full bar if you need something to keep occupied.
(5)Ashley M.
Awesome cheese fries. Ice cold beer. Burgers so juicy they drip down your fingers. Need I say more?
(5)Deborah B.
Best burger I've ever had! Great staff, and atmosphere. No wonder DDD recommends it!
(5)Stacey C.
Very busy place on a Friday night. Great band and outdoor seating. I had an enchilada burger. The burger was well done. I had asked for medium well but was told that did not happen because of how busy they were that night. I thought it was okay but not nearly as good as the Rodeo Goat. Service was slow because they were busy but servers were nice. Fans blowing cool wet air as it was a warm night. I would recommend a good place for drinks and hanging out.
(3)Mike N.
Great burgers, naked calf fries with jalapeños and bacon and the chili! Cold a&@ beer, try the Mi Chilada! The service is always at your side. Summer, Brian, Nick and Charlie are the f$&*@?! Bomb!!

Love at first bite. I lived in Fort Worth for 4 years and never visited. However, I've been wanting to go ever since I began working on the Texas Monthly top 50 Texas burger list. This burger was my 26th of the 50 burgers. El Diablo was the burger. My wife had eaten here in the past. She said she thought the place burned down a few times due to grease fires. We confirmed... On minor kitchen fires. If you love a greasy burger joint, the occasional grease fire is a good thing, right? We showed up at 3:00 on a Friday and the place was packed. They have a giant outdoor seating area (covered) with live music and such. We sat inside because it was the only place with seats. What a great vibe. The place is fun and the menu looked relish. I got the Diablo and enjoyed every bite! If you haven't been, add it to your list. It's a Fort Worth original and has enough history that you should give it a try before the typical burger chain.

Was searching for a cool, rustic, Texan bar, then I found this place! Was so happy to find this cool little spot. The ambiance of this place is really neat, totally Southern, they have excellent beer on tap, and there "Fredburger" was amaaaazing. Remember it was on the slower side while I was there for lunch last weekend, so the bartender was very friendly and outgoing, we talked about the town, and its surroundings, and the fact that they have live music throughout most of the week. Really cool place, if I'm ever back in Ft. Worth again, I'll definitely be back!
(4)Eric T.
Probably the surprise of the evening. Large outdoor bar area with adjoining cafe, fresh local IPA brew, and live music that would rival 6th Street in Austin. On a Tuesday night! As I apparently one of the last of the Fort Worth transplants to to truly discover the amazement of 7th street, Fred's apparently gave me a new perspective. Why? For one, you can hear the live band from 3 blocks away & with the Ranger's game turned up high in a neighboring bar. And the music sounded great! While I didn't try the food due to a full belly of food, brew and Steel City Pop's creamery (across the street), I did try the local IPA brew. Given two choices of some of the finest locally, I couldn't hear what the bartender told me about the brands (due to the music). Didn't matter. Both brands were well worth the $7. The seats at the bar felt funny (something in the middle that protrudes into your crotch), yet I didn't think much of it due to the mesmerizing rhythm & blues music, plus potent 9% IPA drafts. Oh yes, it was a good night. The parking garage is directly around the corner from the building. I love the fact that you have 2 hours of parking for free. Fred's Texas Cafe, I'll certainly see you once again in the near future!

We went on a Monday night after a long day at TCU orientation. Ambiance is your run-of-the mill college town sports bar... not a bad thing, not a point of differentiation either. Summertime, so not crowded at all. We asked them to put the Stanley Cup game on the big screen, and they immediately accommodated. We all played it safe and ordered the burgers. Outstanding. I loved the hand cut Idaho fries... the more health-conscious in my party eschewed them. Waiter was adequate... the wife described him as "surly", but I'm generously going with adequate. We will be back.

The pictures of the burgers on yelp is what initially drew me here! My friends and I ordered the Diablo burger, Mushroom Swiss burger, Serrano burger, fried pickles and a side of ranch. I was hoping to upgrade my side of fries that came with the burger to cheese fries (which looked so yummy in pictures) but good thing I asked first because our waiter told me it would cost me another $3.25 to put some cheese on top... What the hell no thanks. The burgers were delicious, big, and full of pickles, lettuce, and tomatoes. The Serrano burger had a nice heat to it and was definitely better tasting than the Diablo burger if you are looking for a spicy burger. The Mushroom Swiss could have used a bit more melted Swiss cheese on it but still very juicy and delicious. I loved the fries! Greasy and mushy. I also loved that all of the tables had a bottle of Siracha sitting on them. Most of the specialty burgers ran a little expensive, most of them about $14.95 whereas Rodeo Goat burgers are around $9 without fries. Good meal, my main complaints are that they charge an extra $1 on a "side" of ranch the size of a college Jell-O shot and once the live band started playing at sun down, the amp was on too loud for the small size of the seating area so that it was impossible to hold conversation with anyone at our table without yelling. All in all, the meal was okay.

I went back recently and had a Big Fred and several cold Coors and enjoyed The Aggravators. It was a damned good time. My only complaint? I wish they would have more servers on duty. It takes a little long to get your food or more beer. Still, this place is great.
(4)Brent M.
Freds is so great. Get the daily special, no matter what it is. Get some cold beer if you're 21+. This place has the best bartenders in town if your interested. They are really nice too. Jaime is probably the best. Come at happy hour and save some money. Tell Angel hello and get some extra good food from his kitchen.
(5)Becky K.
Went there on a rainy Tuesday. The waitress at first seemed very grouchy but in the end she came around. The place was rustic looking. A big stage for the center of attention and chairs around it. They also had bar and window seating. Menu was very simple of burgers, a few other sandwiches and salads. They didn't have a menu for beer but she named a lot of different types and it seemed like they had a full bar. The food was amazing. I ordered the bacon mushroom burger and it was thick, juicy and messy just now a burger should be. The only thing i wasn't impressed with would be the music. It was different and I didn't recognize many songs. Maybe it had something to do with the rustic theme.. Who knows.. Price wasn't too shabby. Overall good place and I would go again.

Drive past the slick new lofts and the drapery fronted restaurants on West 7th, go around the corner to see the red barn of Fred's waving its dusty straw cowboy hat beckoning you to come in. This place is a complete dive, which is a big part of what makes it cool. My cohort once (we went at lunch, he was in business pants) actually got stuck to the vinyl diner booth via the duct tape holding it together! Good times! Best item on the menu is the Diablo Burger. Bring your own bib & roll your sleeves up, the yummy goodness will drip off your elbows. All the burgers are pretty darn good though. I heard they have an upscale menu on Friday nights, can't picture it but what the hell, I'd like to try it!
(4)Cody C.
The breakfast menu is lacking in items. I had the 8oz rib eye steak and eggs, which was very good as it was. The meat was deliceous, but had quite alot of fat. The meat was tender and the eggs( scrambled) were very light and flavorful. The meal came with steak, eggs, biscut and gravy, and some potatoes. All in all it was good but not great. Still want to try the lunch menu, but not today.

My wife and I checked this place out after seeing it featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. We rarely see places from our backyard in the Food Network spotlight and we decided to make the drive from Denton to check it out. If you credit your interest in Fred's to the DDD segment, you need to know that it is primarily a burger joint. Perhaps because we were so enamored of the 16-oz ribeye, the lamb stew, and the chili featured in the segment, we did not realize this initially. However, this was not a problem, as there is nothing on the menu that is not or does not sound amazing. I had the 16-ounce ribeye and my wife had the classic Fredburger w/cheese and cheese fries. RIBEYE: If you want the ribeye, you must request it specifically, as it is an off-menu item. Fred's is wise to do this, as I probably would have thought twice about having the steak if I had known beforehand that it is $29. I promise, however, that it is worth every penny spent and every minute waited. When they ask if you like it spicy, for the love of God, SAY YES! They top it with chipotle adobo peppers, caramelized onions, salt & pepper, and all kinds of other spicy goodies. Not only is the meat succulent and tender, even the fat yielded none of its customary resistance. The whole thing went down smooth, and the spice didn't kick my butt so hard that I couldn't feel the flavor. Best steak I've ever had in my life. Be sure to soak up the gravy with the toast slices provided as well. Even the pre-meal salad was incredible. The produce was the freshest I've ever eaten in a salad; I'd bet dollars to donuts it's locally grown. FREDBURGER + CHEESE FRIES: Even just the classic burger is amazing, not cooked until you place your order. The burger itself is a little greasy but not nauseatingly so, the perfect amount. The vegetable trimmings are top-notch--so much so, in fact, that this marked the first time I have ever seen my wife leave the tomatoes on a burger. We also brought part of the burger home in a take-away box, and it held up better than any burger I've ever brought home from a restaurant. I have a predilection for spicy foods so I am probably going to have the Diablo burger the next time I go, due to its chipotle peppers and similarities to the ribeye I had. Cheese fries, I find, are generally untrustworthy, but the Colby jack they used was so gooey and fresh that combined with the hand-cut potatoes it made for a winner. OTHER PERTINENT DETAILS: There are two seating areas, one inside where you sign in and wait to be seated and a nearby patio where you seat yourself on a first-come-first-served basis and can hear live music--generally, it seems, a solo guitarist playing country covers. The guitarist playing on the day we ate had a very Monte Montgomery-esque sound, but as neither of us care for live music--not in a restaurant setting, anyway--we opted for indoors. I am not the best of city drivers, and we arrived at a fairly busy hour, so we found the parking situation a bit tricky, but if you drive around for a few minutes a space on the street should clear up shortly. Be prepared to wait a while for your food. This is not the fault of the cooks, but rather is attributable to their small grill and laudable insistence on using fresh (i.e. not frozen) ingredients. You will forgive the long wait time upon finally tasting your food. One peculiar but minor nitpick I have is that the napkins provided are too thin and not big enough. This is the kind of place that should really have a roll of paper towels on the table. ----- Overall, knowing what to expect, I'd certainly go here again and tell other people about this place. I had a great time and won't forget it any time soon.

My third stop on my Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives tour of the Dallas-Ft. Worth area while here for business. Haven't been dissapointed yet. Fred's is a tiny red building in the middle of an area that looks to be growing. Modern looking buildings and stores around it. And here sits this little red shack with outdoor seating and a live band. Based on yelp and the waitress recommendations, I ordered the Diablo burger. Huge burger topped with chipotle and onion. It was pretty spicy, but nothing that took away from the taste of the burger. Quality meat for a quality burger. Great flavor. Fresh cut fries were perfect as well. That's how you do fries! Beer comes out COLD and in LARGE glasses. Good selection of draft beer as well. We sat inside, but should have sat outside on a great Ft. Worth day with a live band. Fred's is a perfect DDD place.

Fred's is one of those places that evolved organically over time. You cannot conceive of and build a place like this. Their burgers are great, although fries are middling. If you decide to dine in, hope you're not scarred of slightly dirty picnic tables, greasy menus, and waiters wearing flip-flops. Do be prepared to wait for your burger, as they are made to order. I would totally go back here.

I had to go into work for a while today and my wife went along to keep me company. After finishing, and since it was a beautiful cool fall Texas evening, we decided to head over to Fred's for burgers on the patio. My wife had been to the other location but never to the original. We seated ourselves and put our drink order in, me a margarita and my wife a beer. My wife ordered the Fred burger (1/4 pound) and I ordered the chicken "fred" steak platter. My platter came with fries and a salad and my wife's burger came with fries. My salad was a delightful bowl of spring mix with a very chunky bleu cheese dressing. The bowl was also chilled. It was the perfect start for me. Shortly after finishing my salad our entrees arrived. Oh my goodness, the chicken "fred" steak almost filled the whole plate! My wife said her burger was very good but there was no seasoning on the meat. She kept salting and salting, and she never does that. Other than the seasoning, she said the burger was wonderful. My chicken fried steak was the same way, way under seasoned. I too kept salting and salting. The gravy was a wonderful consistency and the fries were outstanding, home cut and fried perfectly. It was strange everything was way under seasoned. The wait staff worked very well together ensuring we never ran out of anything. We had an incredible relaxing evening enjoying the cool weather and listening to the live music on Fred's patio. It was the perfect way to end the week.

Don't waste your time. We sent the chicken fried steak back, every bite was gristle and tough as a boot. Fries are over cooked. Honey mustard dressing was gross. Burgers are not worth $10.00. Waitresses can't get along. Our waitress was nice. Bathrooms are horrible. Go to McDonalds
(1)Mya N.
Great place! I got the Bacon Mushroom burger, and it was HUGE! It's very filling! I left my to go box inside, and the waiter was very nice enough to bring it outside to me before I left the parking lot! Recommend!
(4)Barry C.
This place sucks!!! My beer was watered down and had trash floating around in it and as for my bartender, she was rude as hell. I will never be back here again.

If you're looking for fast service, comfortable seats, the correct order, and healthy food, do not go to Fred's Texas Café in Fort Worth. However, if you want good freaking food (after switching hamburgers with the people at my table) that may give you a heart attack, Fred's is your place. This dive featured on Guy's Drive-In, Diners, and Dives is one wonderful place. The Fredburger is fully-loaded with the works, cheese optional on a fresh grilled bun. You can see the grease dripping off it after each bite and at least one napkin per bite is necessary. I also highly recommend the bacon cheese fries. No matter what anyone says, these cheese fries are so great. Imagine delicious hand cut French fries, completely covered in Swiss and Cheddar cheese, sprinkled with onions and bacon. Fred's provides you with a side of Ranch dressing, which adds the perfect compliment to the cheesy goodness. The drive to Fort Worth, hour plus wait (just to sit), diner-style yellow benches, and switching orders was definitely worth the hamburgers and cheese fries served at Fred's Texas Café.

Yes, stockyards isn't that far away. But come on! That place is a tourist trap. Fred's is where it's at! Fred's may be the oldest business on 7th now. It's pretty obvious why. The building well, patio, has gotten so much bigger in the last couple of years yet they still have the same staff! I love it! At Fred's you can expect some good ol' Fort Worthian service, all around Texan atmosphere, live music almost everyday of the week and cold a$$ beer. Oh, they also have food; like real good food. Hamburgers and it Can't be Texas with out chicken fried steak. I had the Diaplo, cause I thought I was tough enough to handle the heat. But, nope :\ it made me cry. It was super spicy, and still flavorful. They are not shy with their portions either! Oh and them seasoned fries! Yumm!
(5)James H.
Ok, if you're walking in for the first time you may be shocked that a place that looks like this gets 5 stars, but the visual atmosphere is absolutely part of the total package that makes Fred's work so well. The tacos are the greatest I've had, anywhere, because the ingredients are so fresh and no "extra" stuff (no cheese or lettuce) - worth the trip just for the tacos. But look at the people, join in the fun, and let Fred's engulf you. I will be back!
(5)Krishelle L.
I would have given this place 4 stars based on the fun atmosphere alone, but since we had to drive back to Austin that day, we didn't get to stay long enough to enjoy more $6 scooner mimosas or the live music outside. Brunch is fun and worthwhile just for the mentioned scooner specials and music. Fun, laid back atmosphere. The servers are nice, but no nonsense. Unfortunately they don't offer the 'legendary' burgers during brunch. Also unfortunate is the prices on the brunch plates. $16-17 for eggs and quail or chicken fried steak? And my reasonably priced huevos rancheros ($8) were rather bland and greasy (yeah, yeah, I know this place is a grease spoon). Overall though, I would recommend this place to out of towners or locals just wanting a chill afternoon. And I will come back when I visit dear old mom and dad next time, and hopefully be able to try the burger instead.
(3)Kristina M.
The worst thing about Fred's in the price. The best thing about Fred's is the fredburger. I had a fredburger with cheese and it was delicious. The patty was thick and flavorful and the fries were pretty tasty (I'm very picky about my fries). The burgers are good but I shouldn't be paying that much for a burger and fries.
(4)Suzie B.
As a Fort Worth native, I've been going to Fred's since way before Guy Fieri, the new cultural district, even the big back patio. It's interesting reading the love/hate reviews here. It's important to note that Fred's is a local burger and beer joint that also serves a Bloody Mary that'll save your hungover soul when necessary. I'm not a huge burger person; if I was, I'd probably be a huge person (nyuk nyuk), but Fred's certainly serves up a fine one, and the fries are perfectly fresh, semi-greasy wonderful, and well, you just can't beat the atmosphere if you're looking for a true old Fort Worth experience. I'm so thankful to Fred for keeping his little red shack there amidst the shiny, new development. I'm all for the development...Fort Worth's got a lot more choices these days than when I moved 10 years ago. Keep Fort Worth Weird. Wait, it's never been weird. Keep Fort Worth Western? Maybe. With some city thrown in. We need Fred's, and I always go there when I'm in for a visit.

Normally I do not give 5 star reviews to places I have only been once. Fred's is an exception because it was so damned good and because sadly, I am unlikely to spend enough time in FW to become a regular customer. If you love great burgers, cold beer, friendly service and distinctive dive ambiance then this is the place for you. Fred's is great and my burger was amazing. It was as good if not better than a twisted root burger but this place had much more of a dive bar feel than nearly any other burger joint ever. (I have not tried Club Schmitz yet) There was a shiny metal bar, booths decked out in in gold vinyl and beers served in frosty schooners. All of those factors point to an awesome joint but what really made this place for me was the combo of friendly servers who were also efficient at their job, the diverse and equally friendly customers and the quality of the food. I ordered the plain Fred's burger with cheese and was impressed with the huge made to order burger and high quality fresh cut fries. The food came out reasonably quickly even though the place was packed for Sunday lunch. Most importantly through all the commotion the bartenders had time to make friendly conversation with one strange little man from the other side of the metroplex sitting alone at the bar. I did not know that Fred's was famous until after I literally lucked upon the place while visiting the Cultural District. This burger joint deserves the renown it has received.

What happened to the real Fred's? This used to be the best hole in the wall joint that served awesome burgers and cold beer at a great price. The beer is still cold but the prices have outgrown Ft. Worth. $2.50 used to get you a basket of fries that you had to split with someone because it was so big. Now, $2.50 gets you about 20 fries next to your burger. It was $30 for a flat coke (no refill), a *bottle* of Shiner, the taco plate, and a burger with fries. That's outrageous! I had heard that it's just not the same anymore from several people but I wanted to believe they were wrong. They were not and now I will be one of the people who won't go back unless things change. And that's pretty sad b/c Fred's used to be one of the places my friends and I would specifically plan to visit when we came up from Austin. Hey Fake Fred's, please let the Real Fred's come back!!!

This is such a Ft Worth iconic staple. It definitely stands out in the West 7th crowd with its bright red brick in the midst of the industrial W 7th boom. I like to take out of town guests here for a true Texas burger. Parking is sometimes an issue on the weekends but more parking garages are being built so that shouldn't be an issue much longer. If you sit inside you're surrounded by gold vinyl booths and walls plastered in classic and historical ft worth memorabilia. The ambiance is cafe style, it's an older place with character so you shouldn't expect anything new or shiny. The wait staff is friendly but not chatty and always around for a refill. My usual order is the Fred burger with cheese, all the toppings and it comes with a pile of hand sliced fries (more than I can eat). The Fred burger is a big juicy 1/2 pounder and hard for me to finish. I have to cut it in half and squish it down a bit to fit in my mouth. The bun is buttered and soft. It comes piled high with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mustard, and ketchup and siracha is on the table. It's quite messy but delightful. Weekends are often hard to get a table inside without a wait, but the patio out back has more seating and is completely shaded so it's doable in the Texas heat. There is nearly always live music playing on the patio. Beers are average priced at 4-6 dollars and served in big ice cold schooners. They have a great happy hour during the week from 3-6 with cheaper beer options. It's the perfect Texas stop for burgers and beers.
(4)Ryan B.
Can't tell if I liked it better before the remodel, but the burgers, beer, patio and live music are a winning combo. Plus, the eccentric FW locals who hang out there is a fun mix. You'll see suit-and-tie execs from downtown, college students, bikers, cowboys from Will Rogers, rocker types from West 7th. Cool mix and very eccletic menu. As a FW native, a great place to take someone from Dallas. You could spend $10 on burgers, fries and beer, or $30 on a specialty dinner. Dissapointed they carry wine, though. :)
(5)Justin M.
All I have to say about Fred's is AMAZING BURGERS and Keegan Mcinroe plays there live from time to time as well as other great musicians. Nuff said. Def go check out this place for the food, atmosphere, and music. One of the best local DFW spots there is. - Justin ppmband.com
(5)Brian P.
By far the best burger i have ever eaten in my entire life, Bacon Mushroom Burger made me cream my pantalones!
(5)Jenny S.
This place is everything I love about Texas joints. Rustic decor. Super friendly service. And they give you a hard time if you only order one beer...at 10:30 in the morning! We saw this place on Diner's Drive Ins and Dives. We have been to at least 20 and only one has disappointed (in Phoenix). This place is one of our favorites so far. Seriously one of the best burgers my husband and I have ever had. Try the simple Fredburger with cheese or go out on a spicy limb and get the Diablo burger with grilled onions and chipotle chili sauce. YUM!!!
(5)Darcy M.
I will drive to the end of the Earth for Taco Fries!!!! Parking stinks but it is worth it.
(4)Katy W.
A true Fort Worth staple! If you have not enjoyed the bliss (and grease) of a Fred's burger or the experience in general you must become part of the local following. Fred's is easily a top contender for the "best burger" in town debate - burgers ranging from classic, mushroom swiss, blue cheese or the famous "diablo" burgers (all accompanied by hand cut french fries) are in high demand at the Currie St. location. Sunday brunch is also a nice deviation from the standard with "cowboy cooking" which is a special menu you would see straight out of an old chuck wagon, prepared and served by Texas' finest cowboy chefs. Featured on Diners, Drive-in's and Dives you can't go wrong choosing anything on this Sunday brunch menu, they are serving up true southern favorites such as iron skillet biscuits with sausage gravy, chicken fried steak and eggs - burgers are served after noon. Fred's is also known as having "cold ass beer" but also serve an excellent bloody Mary which includes everything but the kitchen sink, as I like to say, and mimosas in schooners. This establishment has just completed their outdoor patio renovation which is now fully covered in order to cater to their popular live music performances in any kind of weather, but is open air on the sides for nice days. Local bands definitely draw heavy crowds on a daily basis and make weekends difficult to find seating, especially on the patio but your meal and experience are always worth the wait!

Best burger in FTW............all you need to know
(5)Simeon K.
Can't decide between them or Kincaid's for top burger in Fort Worth. You can't go wrong with either. Fred's has a real hole in the wall atmosphere. With the 7th street development going up all around it let's hope it will stick to its roots. Fries are normal, nothing special about them. Patty is juicy and delicious. Bun is regular as well. I've never tried anything else there, although the sunday brunch Quail seems yummy.
(5)Judy C.
Texas intentional HOLE IN THE WALL - surrounded by new, chic, trendy, pricy joints. Honestly, I like both - and even in the same evening! Fred's could be a movie set - Giant burgers, beer on tap, live music on the patio, people that have eaten too many burgers and have had too many beers - wearing halter tops, dancing. It's very fun. My only complaint - the music is way too loud. I like loud music - but literally you cannot say one audible word to the friends you came with - but other than that - fun, good food. Take all your tourist friends here for a burger and then go to Sweet Sammies for dessert!
(4)Jamie S.
Have you been to the 7th / University area of Ft Worth recently. Lots of new concrete and steel and many fine, fine mini-restaurants and bars. Very much New York. Love it. Then in the middle of this is a wooden shack (term used with much respect and envy). Old place. 10 inside tables and another makeshift shack next to it with a few dozen more. The Bleu Cheese Fred. Ono-licious. Served with the definition of fries. Burgers next to stainless steel sushi surrounded by martini patios. Damn, Freds is basic, bitchin, real and sloppy good. Hamburgers for all! Oh, it is closed on the busiest lunch restaurant day of the week - Mondays (no clue as to why).
(4)Charles B.
Fred's serves great food, there's no doubt. But I do think the restuarant is slightly overrated. I've had the diablo burger and a couple of burgers before, and the tacos. The tacos tasted great, but if I came here I wouldn't order them. The Diablo burger is delicious. The service here, 4 out of 4 times, has invariably sucked. It's just one of those places I guess that has poor service and you just have to deal with it. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other menu items. The lamb stew is out of sight; start your meal off right with some of that.
(4)Moto S.
One of the better handmade burgers in town. Fresh cut fries have always been good...always good, sometimes really good. Fred's and Kincaids are the best two in town for a burger like this. Small inside cafe, either go early or go late afternoon or be prepared to sit out on the covered back patio. I prefer to go early and sit at the counter. Only thing, this is the only place I've ever been charged extra for extra pickles. Seriously guys, I'll let you keep the onions next time if you're really that hard up.
(4)Txgirl M.
My husband and I heard about this place from the food network so we wanted to try it out. It was very busy when we went on Saturday. This place is well worth the wait. The food was great and so was the service. We tried the diablo burger and the stew. All was good and so was the cold beer because it is very hot in Texas right now.
(5)Alison S.
Great burgers!! Bbq burger is soo good! Fun atmosphere. Live music. Good service.
(5)Lesley C.
Best little burger joint in Texas! If your coming from out of town this place should be on your to-do list. Great burgers and cold beer. Funny decor... but what else do you expect from a place named after a dog!
(5)J L.
After the raves about this place, we were expecting the best burger we've ever had. But I have to say that it was the most dry burger I have ever had (as if they pressed the heck out of it). Didn't care for the greasy limp fries too much. They need to be blanched I think. The atmosphere is charming and the people are really nice. Maybe it was just a bad day....would give it another try based on the friendly service.
(3)Wren S.
Absolutely fantastic food, generally good service, and great prices, but the restaurant itself is so small that it can be a pain moving around. The parking lot was practically nonexistant, but there are so many places to park nearby that I can't see that being much of a problem -- I can't help but think that the people complaining about the parking either came before the areas across the street were developed, or are just not used to having to walk half a block; wake up call, parking's a bitch in any downtown area. I do recommend going at off hours, though, to avoid the overcrowding inside at lunch and dinner peak hours.
(4)Cristina M.
Spicy bloody Mary was great. All of our burgers were delicious. You must visit if you're in the area. worth the drive if youre not. Service was adequate for the type of restaurant. We tried a Blue cheese burger, the bacon mushroom, enchilada burger and the Diablo burger. All were enormous and tasty.
(5)Tony S.
So we came back for the burgers... and were not disappointed! They really were good & the home made fries were excellent as well! They had a 3 piece band playing out on the patio who were really good as well. All around, this is a pretty good place to come. The staff is helpful, attentive & very nice.
(5)Alysen N.
Over the top friendly and attentive service and tasty beef... Burger, Fred's tacos and burger salad! BIG selection at the bar too! FTW ultra casual at its best! We will be back!
(5)Sandra K.
Pretty disappointed in this place. I almost want to give it 1 star but we did come in here with high expectations. The service. ..not so great. Maybe it's a certain ambience they're going for. They're just not friendly. The food...not that good. Fiancé got the chicken fred steak. For the price, it's just okay. We've had better. The texture was too grounded, the flavor. ..well...it just didn't taste right. It had a bland slightly sour taste. I got the bacon and mushroom burger. That was $15 for the plate. I was expecting some WOW factor for that price. Nothing. Just plain old hamburger with a regular bun. Yes it had portabella mushrooms and bacon on it, but it was BLAND! When I say bland, it's really BLAND. Most food is salty to my taste. So this place had no taste. The fries, have to admit. They were good. But come on! I'm not going to pay premium prices for just the fries. I gave it that extra star for the ambience. I was looking for that country style laid back feel while in FW. I think we got that here.

You want a Ft Worth experience? Fred's is the place to go. A beer joint serving GREAT food among the revitalized area this is a place where suits and boots intermingle. I had one of their famous burgers and my wife had some lamb stew. No, we didn't go hungry because the portions were huge. The lamb stew was unbelievable, we even brought some home and I had it with eggs the next day on a tortilla and enjoyed that. Is it fine dining? Depends, great food served with great service, then yes it is. If you looked up comfort food in the dictionary, this place would be featured. I couldn't help but over hear thee manager/owner suggest a philly steak sandwich to the guy in the adjoining booth and when he checked to see if the customer liked it the customer grumbled a little. Without hesitation or attitude the server asked what he wanted and they gave him a Fred burger. How that situation was handled was impressive. If you want good food at a an interesting setting then you need to make the trip to Fred's.
(5)Scott D.
It had to be about 35 degrees outside and about 50 degrees inside so I wore my coat while sitting at the stage. I ordered a Big Fred and some fries along with a Shiner Bock. The burger must have been a pound of meat and after taking a couple of bites everybody at the table looked around at everybody and said this is the best burger I have eaten in a long time. I'll go one step further and say that this was the best tasting burger I have ever had. It was cooked perfectly and so juicy. Just tell Fred to turn up the heat next time or at least invest in a couple of those portable heat lamps. I'm sure my rating will improve as the temperature rises.
(4)Ali G.
It was between a 2 and a 3 for me today. But in the end, I just wasn't that impressed. The place was not busy at all when we showed up, and I think maybe one or two tables came in after us. And yet it took almost 30 minutes from the time we ordered until we got our food (3 burgers and a grilled cheese). Our waitress also wasn't super attentive. I got the BBQ Cheddar burger and it was good. It wasn't $14 good. It was a small step up from some fast food places, like maybe Carl's Jr or Burger Street. Someone in our group also got the BBQ burger and said the same thing. Another person got the Serrano burger and said that it was worth what he paid, but it only had the smallest amount of kick, contrary to what he was told by the waitress. Fries were fresh and tasted good, but some people in our party thought they were too greasy. The only thing on the menu for kids is a grilled cheese for $5 and that is all you get (plus a couple pickles). No drink, no fries, nothing. Not a good deal. Also, they charged $2.50 for my kid to get a milk. That was a fun surprise. Over $7 for two slices of white bread, some American cheese, and a small milk. Very disappointing.
(2)Becky B.
Good burgers, but WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for what you get. $15 for a burger & fries for lunch?? $65 bill for 3 of us for lunch. And we didn't have dessert or anything extra. That's too much for lunch. Boo.
(3)Sarah S.
Yes, Fred's is a great landmark. I have been coming for 15 years. Great memories! With the raise of west 7th Fred's has became a bit touristy. $14 buck for a burger is a bit much. Kinda been there seen it place for me now. If you do find yourself at Fred's the New Orleans burger is really good.
(4)Kendall S.
Ah, ol' Fred's Texas Cafe. Everything around it has been modernized to make up the trendy little West 7th area that we all know and love, and I've walked/driven by Fred's many times and thought, "you don't really fit in here, you old run down building!" While aesthetically different from the sparkling new Steel City Pops across the street, Fred's has the history, spirit, food, and service to fit in better than just fine. It's refreshing to have this old and tiny cafe with their huge, awesome patio still going strong amongst all the new biz growth surrounding it. I visited on a recent evening and made myself comfy on the patio for a few minutes. With the fans blowing and fully covered roof, it wasn't so bad sitting outside despite the late August heat and humidity. There are plenty of tables, a great bar, friendly staff bringing you water and menus, and friendly faces enjoying their regulars. You could fit a serious sized party out here. I moved inside, however, to meet with a friend. There is NOT a ton of space inside, so if you have more that 4 in your group, I'd definitely recommend the patio. We were comfortable in our booth, although the inside of this restaurant looks like its seen many decades of patronage. Everything is clean, though, so don't worry. We ordered a couple of fat margaritas on the rocks, served with Halo del Santo salt on the rims (this salt is made and sold by a local Fort Worthian, and it's delicious. Try it). The margaritas had a TON of citrus in them; I swear there was an entire lemon sliced up in mine. They were refreshing and not too strong considering their size. The menu is pretty simple and covers your basics. Burgers, sandwiches, tacos, a few specials, hand cut fries, and salads. They also serve brunch from 10 am-12 pm on Sundays, and the brunch menu looks gooooood. Steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy, huevos rancheros.... a $6 mimosa with no refills doesn't sound very fun, but the rest still sounds incredible and I've heard that Fred's gets BUSY on Sunday morning. Since I'd already eaten, we just decided to order some chips and salsa, so that's the only Fred's food I can really talk about. Sad, I know. But I can happily say that their chips and salsa are amazing and rival any Mexican restaurant's! The chips themselves are served hot hot hot - perfect texture and saltiness. The salsa isn't spicy, but it's addictive. I gotta go back ASAP and order some tacos or nachos. Probably both.
(4)Prince H.
I love the hole in the wall feel in the middle of brand new posh. And good burgers. But I have been coming here for years and rarely get good service. I mean it's terrible. Good patio for music but I prefer to eat inside in the booths. I like the Diablo burger
(3)Regina C.
Wow, what took me so long to visit Fred's. I was afraid of having to eat a burger and drink a beer while in a standing room only establishment. Silly? YES I visited on a Saturday night to hear a friends band. While parking was a pain in the tequila shot I did a stunt jump, landing right in front. Music was fantastic, service was warm, funny, friendly. That is until someone started yelling for the person in the Cube that had Fred's parking spot. All fingers pointed to me. I knew I had, in fact, NOT parked in Fred's space. Sitting and smiling while 20 something servers freak out because THEY WERE RIGHT AND THIS OLD LADY MUST BE SENILE......I was told that the tow truck would be hauling my car away in seconds and why wasn't I running to move it? Because I knew and so would everyone else if they had just stepped out and looked. over zealous defenders of Fred parking space: 0 me: 1 I got another cocktail and enjoyed it on the bad ass patio. I love it.
(5)Sarah B.
Stopped at Fred's on my way through Fort Worth on New Year's Day 2014. I had a massive migraine and just wanted a beer and a sandwich. When I ordered the beer, I had no idea it was going to be a GIANT beer, but it was, and it was awesome. (Everything's bigger in Texas, right?) Was feeling a little nauseous due to the migraine, so I just got a grilled cheese, and it was just what the doctor ordered. Fred's staff is super nice, and I had a nice conversation with the bartender. (They seem to have a full bar.) If I find myself in Fort Worth again, I'll make sure to stop in for another giant beer and maybe a different sandwich.

Came here on a Saturday for lunch. First time here. Heard many great things about this place. Even though it was working it's way up to a 100 degrees that day, it was nice outdoors with the misting fans blowing. Great atmosphere with the acoustic 2 piece band. At this time you could still have a conversation even with the music playing. They are famous for their hamburgers, so that's what I got, a cheeseburger. I was taken back by the buns being straight out of the refrigerator cold. Not sure how you can have a toasted bun and it be cold. The burger was big and flavorful. Not greasy at all. The burger did not fall apart, it stayed together through the last bite. If it weren't for the cold buns, I would say this is one of the best burgers. I will try again. Otherwise I will just drink the beer.
(4)Rich R.
Ten of us went to see Holland K Smith play at Fred's Cafe last night. We new the music would be great, but had no idea the food & service would be too! Fred now has 10 new regulars!
(5)Alicia J.
I've come here often to the patio for live music and hadn't ordered food. A group of us decide to sit inside since it was the only place still serving food late Saturday night. I had the Serrano Burger. It's a bit pricey, but the burger is huge and comes with a bountiful amount of fries. Both were super yummy. The serrano peppers were a little too spicy for me, so I had to take some out (wimp). My friends all enjoyed their burgers: BBQ Cheddar Burger, Blue Cheese Burger, and Chicken Club Sandwich. I was so stuffed & satisfied and still had about half my plate left. The decor is very cowboy western New Mexico-ish (it felt like home - I'm from AZ). The guys like the TV - manly sports stuff.

Took my sister to Fred's yesterday because she was from out of town and wanted something unique to Fort Worth for lunch. Fred's, has been around since before Moses parted the Red Sea or so it seems, therefore this would be the place to take her. We arrived there a little early for lunch and we walked into the main little house. We asked for a seat not thinking about anything and the host went to seat us inside the original part of Fred's. We wanted to sit outside since it was so pretty and told the host "we would like to sit outside." Un-be-known to us our host was a comedian and preceded to take us into the little office area which had no access door only a huge freezer door and then giggled and said "wrong way! Oh you can't get to the outside from here." What a good trick on us. We all had a good laugh. So we went back out the front door and down to the outside entrance. We were seated immediately and both of us ordered the Patty Melt with fries. It was delicious. Our dad used to love Patty Melts and since he passed away 17 years ago it was a really nice memory for my sister and me. My sister stated more than once that whatever seasonings they use in the meat was so good and the fries were hand cut and yummy! A great experience!! Thanks Fred's for staying true to yourself even when modernization is growing all around you!!

OMG best burgers in DFW hands down. This is my go to spot in Fort Worth. You want extremely delicious burgers and cold beer this place is Texas. The prices have risen since the last time ive been but you can't hate on the popularity. I'm a big blue cheese and bacon guy so yeah I'm sold. If I have guest that come and visit I always bring them here you can't find burgers like this outside Texas.
(5)John G.
Had a beer here while waiting for a table elsewhere. Beer was great. Service could have been better. Burgers (being carried by) looked great. In retrospect, should have just eaten here. We'll come back for sure.
(4)Melinda B.
Service was a little slow in the beginning because of the amount of people dining, but the burgers were solid, and we will definitely be back
(4)Mark C.
Great fries. I did the diablo burger, which was good, but since it was my first time should have gotten something more mainline for a fair review. Sat on patio when it was 92 and fans made it very comfortable.
(4)Lawrence W.
Frosty cold beer, one of the best burgers I've had. Brian was truly a great host and server. A must try in Fort Worth TX. It's fun and truly good!!!
(5)Sean G.
I've been to a lot of burger joints with my son over the years. This is easily one of the best. Whether you're dining in the original building or in the patio area, you can be sure you're getting a great meal coupled with some attentive service. I love the beer being served in a goblet. The live music that can be found on the patio is a plus.
(4)Don C.
Fred's was one of my favorite places to go for live music and a burger but over the last few months the experience is just not the same. Staff. There are a few that work the patio and could care less if you needed a beverage, order food or needed a refill. They walk around with their heads down so not to make eye contact and have to serve you. I understand they get busy but when I see staff chatting and not providing a great customer service experience, I'm done. Now inside, all good. Great service. If you are not a "regular", then you are treated badly. Most companies rely on new customers to grow and be profitable...Fred's has a different perspective. Music. Love the artists they bring in to perform. But the cheap sound system is so bad that you can't even hear the music. Come on folks, you are known for music and won't invest the dollars to make your bands and audience happy. A recipe for failure. Place speakers all around the patio so patrons can be entertained. A happy customer spends more money. Food. All I have ever had is the burger. Three years ago, best in Ft Worth. Lately Rodeo Goat gets my vote. However, if you sit inside and order, pretty darn good. Don't order food outside as its cold and served badly. Eat and drink inside. Their cook or kitchen manager seems to care about the quality of food served. However the wait staff needs training. Will I go back? Maybe for a burger but only inside. Music? There are plenty of choices to find Texas Country in Ft Worth. Fred's is not one of them.
(2)Hannah S.
AWESOME staff, so friendly and accommodating, we had like 9 people checking on us to make sure e were taken care of. Fun atmosphere. Food took a while to com e out but that is my ONLY complaint. The burgers were great and so are the cheese fries.
(4)Todd B.
The atmosphere was of an old fashioned outdoor tavern restaurant like those in Florida or in Galveston-TX bar was standard and burgers were good. The only problem was the glacier pace of service I waited for 45 min for service and an hour for food. it did come to us hot and their was a beer fest going on management just needs to prepare. Will try again
(3)Stephanie S.
For uniquely prepared burgers to the most simple of french fries, this is a great place for the hungry southern family. The portions are generous with a full and balanced flavor. The missing star is for a serving issue we had at the last visit but isn't common. The patio is more like a open honky tonk and the interior is much like a dive, but the atmosphere isn't as low brow as the first impression offers. The great reviews are well earned through the food and the more common high level of service.
(4)Jessica N.
Grabbed dinner with some friends at Fred's one night and I split the Fredburger with Fries. I didn't think the burger was anything special, to be honest, but it was good. The fries, however, were awesome! Crispy, golden, piping hot! Maybe next time I should get a more "dressed up" burger, but after having a not-so-special original, my motivation to return isn't that high. Their fries, though, get a great rating in my book! Check them out and see for yourself.
(3)Robert R.
The hamburgers here are great and the prices are a little steep! This place is more of a bar than a cafe and not catered to kids; no kids menu. We went on a Sunday afternoon and the waitress suggested the $16 tacos for my 9 year old; seriously? I had the Fred's Burger with cheese and fries. Sure the meat was large and impressive in presentation, but the flavor was lacking. I'm not sure if it was even seasoned with salt & pepper. The atmosphere was loud and crowded but enjoyable. Remember, this area is crawling with college aged hipsters and drugstore cowboys lol, not to mention a few real Cowboys and cowgirls! If you're on a date, then this would be a fun place to go eat; just leave the kids at home! I enjoyed the live music btw!
(3)Corinne H.
Service was excellent! 3R Rebecca was our waitress and was phenomenal! Our first time coming and everything was outstanding. The customers were even awesome. Guy know we were visiting to bring the son to first year of college so he bought the first round. Not usually a fan of fried pickles but they were great, lots of dimension rather than the usual fried salty meh. All the burgers were great and perfectly cooked. Serrano was spicy but not over bearing. Bacon mushroom swiss and Freds classic were also winners at the table. We will definitely be back!
(5)Brian F.
By far the worst chicken fried steak. Very greasy, the batter did not stick to the meat, and it almost tasted rancid from all the grease. This place does not deserve the rating it has.
(1)Elena A.
The TRUE best burger in Fort Worth!!! I've lived here 12 years and have been loyal to Kincaid's since my first bite, but holy moly when I had Fred's...there was no denying. What an amazing meal. Chips and salsa, BBQ burger, patty melt and fries! LOVE the atmosphere and unpretentious vibe.

We learned about Fred's from a waitress while dining at Magnolia Motor Lounge last year. I was super excited to return to Fort Worth and give this place a try because I just knew it had to be good if Magnolia staff recommended it. Well, after my experience I wanted to give this place 3.5 stars but since it isn't an option I will be generous and award it 4. First off the layout is confusing. You enter what you think is Fred's and inside the restaurant looks like a small diner so I was a bit confused because from the outside it was taking up more real estate. So, we ventured into what we learned was the patio which was covered, heated, large and had a stage. We decided to hang out on the patio. I ordered the Fredburger with cheese and taco fries. The hubby ordered the Serrano burger and regular fries. I must say that Magnolia has them beat in the burger and fry department. Don't get me wrong. After addition of a little salt the Fredburger was quite tasty. The Serrano burger was just OK. As for the fries. No bueno. The seasoned taco meat and cheese that adorned the fries were sort of a mess. Everything was sticking together and the fries themselves were tasteless. Not only were they not good but they were also expensive. Adding taco fries to my burger cost an additional $6.95 for a meal that already came with fries. So, we ended up spending $33 on two burgers, two fries and a beer. The $2.50 beer was the most reasonably priced item on the menu. I think I will stick to Magnolia Motor and Rodeo Goat to satisfy my burger cravings anytime I am in Fort Worth.

I really love Fred's! I go to drink a big, ice cold schooner of Miller light and eat mushroom tacos! My boyfriend and I went on our first date here so we are emotionally attached too :) We always have great service and a good time. Live music is fun, but really loud so sit inside if you are wanting to chit chat. We went on Saturday night and they were busy but we had a blast. I will say that our server Saturday night clearly hated life. His name was Nick, avoid him and you'll have a good time!
(4)Sandy M.
We came here for Saturday lunch because Fred's was featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. There was live music, which was so loud we couldn't hear each other. I had the blue cheese burger, and was disappointed - there wasn't much taste to it at all. And the fries were only so-so. The only thing that didn't disappoint was the cold beer.
(2)R R.
Hubby had the Diablo burger, hot, juicy nothing special, a burger is a burger till it's memorable. I had the portobello burger, nothing special, a portobello mushroom, just the right size for a burger bun, nothing fancy. Parking is awful, but a good thing because we discovered if we parked at Steel City Pops we had an excellent dessert!
(3)Yei P.
This is the best place for burgers or brunch - both start with a "B" and they are the best things in life :D Eat out on the patio and enjoy the live music, which I was indeed enjoying on a rare cool August morning. They make mimosas by the batch, so when they run out, they give you a screwdriver! The waitresses are very southern and friendly. Been here twice already and I will be back and bringing more friends.
(5)Stoney R.
Always fun and consistent ... Terry has the formula Get the Diablo if you dare! A landmark in Funkytown
(5)Katy C.
Pros: The food and business are great. I got the mushroom bacon burger that was loaded with mushrooms, cheese and bacon. You get a nice heaping of fries. The staff is friendly. Cons: Finding parking is a nightmare at times. Since it isn't part of the 7th Street businesses, you are not allowed to park in any of the parking buildings, including the one directly in front of the business. I literally saw people parking on the sidewalk. Once you have accomplished on finding parking, you are faced with getting the servers' attention especially if you are sitting at the bars facing the streets. We have to move to one of the tables before we got service. Other than that, it was a good experience and the food/beer selection is great. Lots of local beers available. I highly recommend you stopping by. FYI: they recently opened a sister store near TCU if you are bear that area. We wanted to sit outside on the patio so that's why we went to this one. The TCU store doesn't have outdoor sitting.
(4)Susan G.
Funky local atmosphere, busy place. Hamburgers excellent in great combinations. Fries OMG! Best beef quesadilla I've ever had. Recommended for casual, local Texas burger and beer joint.
(4)Daniel A.
This place is great if you're looking for somewhere to go with free live local music set in an old bar tavern, Texas-style. I had the Chicken Fried Burger with fries, and it wasn't bad by all means. My only 'beef' with it all was that it was a tad bit too greasy, and it just didn't seem as tasty or as fresh as Rodeo Goat (best burger place in Fort Worth, IMHO). As I mentioned earlier, there's live music set on the stage within the tavern most of the time. With that said, I wouldn't really recommend going here if you plan on talking a lot over your meal. The loud music makes it a little difficult for that. But if you're into the local music scene? TOTES GONNA LOVE IT. My recommendation? If you got a small group (2 or 3 people), sit at the bar. It just seems like the most fun place to be within the whole establishment, even if you don't drink. Why's that? It offers the best view of the whole place and the stage. TD;DR Rodeo Goat is better overall unless you're wanting a side order of local live music.
(3)Ken P.
I fell asleep with the aura of the most awesome Fred Burger (with cheese) soothing me into a night full of blissful dreams. That's how good this place is! We had just finished running the Cowtown Half Marathon and our beaten bodies were in need of healing sustenance. We found just what the doctor ordered here at Fred's - cold, locally brewed craft beer, mouth watering , cooked to perfection ground cow, and a local musician plucking away at the strings of his beat up guitar. Absolutely perfect!!
(5)Daniel W.
One of the Best Burgers I have every had, hands down. The Mushroom Swiss burger is a total mind blower! The fries are REAL potatoes nothing fake here! The burgers are greasy and savory. I have only two issues, the inside seating is kinda ugly inside. So be sure to sit out side when visiting. Sometimes getting fast service might be a issue, and... you will pay a pretty penny for your burger. Be prepared to spend about $20 a person w/ drink and fries. Overall though... It's worth it! :) Because the burgers are so Darn Good!!
(5)Robert C.
Open late night, beer, great burgers, and free love music. What more could you ask for? If you sit in the general dining/ music area (covered patio) be forewarned: all servers work for all tables. Just flag down anyone that works there and they'll help you out. That was a little difficult for me because I hate to be that guy that flags down a server. Alternately you can sit a the cozy kitchen counter inside or at the bar to be in direct contact with staff. The burgers and juicy and the fries are cooked to perfection. No matter what the genre of music is playing you feel like Austin City Limits in the '80s. And that's a good thing!
(4)Darren V.
Went in for lunch with a Co worker that said this place was great. We ate in the enclosed outside bar. It was cold outside but very toasty inside. Waitress was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered drinks and viewed menu. I had the Fred burger and it was FANTASTIC. Fries were pretty awesome too. Waitress came by plenty of times. Would recommend this place to everyone. It only had one person bathrooms with were very small and dirty but you go for the food not the toilet.
(5)Mike B.
If you are on a quest for the best burger ever... this is a stop you must make! First, let me say that Fred's has got to be a Texas original! It is truly a "dive" and what foodie isn't searching for that perfect dive? This place is in the middle of a VERY NICE development! Then there is Fred's Texas Cafe... Right in the middle... It's like going into a someone's Mansion and then finding their ugly dog in a separate room. You go into the room and pet the dog... then realize the dog is the greatest animal you have ever met! Fred's is that "ugly dog." Yes, it is cramped and the booths are incredibly old. Yes, the bathrooms are not the most modern. The clientele are suites and ties to people who just came off the ranch to people who looked as if they begged for money to buy the food. If you are into people watching... you have plenty to look at here! I LOVED this place. From the setting...to the Texas ambiance... to the people eating there and to the wonderful staff! Mostly, it was their wonderful food - I had the Diablo Burger and fries. I think this was by far the BEST burger I have ever had - and their fries - GOOD LORD! If you are within 200 miles of this place - you have to go. For sure.... if you are EVER in Fort Worth - you MUST go to this place. You will thank me!!

Went with the wife on a lazy Saturday around 1ish and sat on the patio. The service was unbearably slow. I know it's a bar/burger place but it took 15 minutes to order beers and then another 15 minutes to get those beers which another waitress brought. So then we ordered our food with her because she asked if we had ordered yet. 30 minutes later we get our fried pickles, which we love. An hour after ordering we get our burgers and my burger was wrong and I got fries when I ordered onion rings. I would've sent it back but by this time I was contemplating suicide and just said fuck it ill eat it anyway. So after we had eaten our food which was decent and staring into our empty beers we flagged down one of our waitresses waited 20 minutes for her to swipe our card and we gtfo there. Won't be going back. Will go to Dutch's by TCU instead. A much better burger joint altogether.

I work/live in downtown Fort Worth, so I've been to Fred's many times, for lunch/dinner and everything in between. This burgers are consistently good and juicy. The Diablo Burger is killer and their fries with the Siricha sauce they put on every table leaves my mouth scorched and happy. The live music in the evenings is nice, but during lunch time it can get VERY busy. I usually want to leave my work early and get there by 1120-1140 to make sure I can get a table.
(5)Greg G.
Great Food but a little pricey for what it is.
(4)J B.
I make a trek here from Dallas with my family about twice a month. Burgers the equal best of anywhere in the country and by far the best I've had in the Lone Star State. My only (and a small one) is that they could use a more substantial burger bun than the grocery store grade they use now. However, the meat and fix'ins are about the best ever! As far as fries go... well Fred's Hand Cut Fries are simply the best in the world... yes I said world, period. I' m not that big of a french fry eater, but Fred's Crispy Bacon Cheese Fries ... well, just don't try and take one off my plate. You will lose a limb. DO NOT MISS the "Crispy Bacon Cheese Fries" with melted Swiss and Cheddar cheeses, grilled onions and jalapenos. Truly amazing and like nothing else anywhere!
(5)Kathy T.
The burgers are good, but it seems to me that I could get a burger just as good for cheaper. It seems to be too expensive for its casual outdoor atmosphere and not good if you don't like hearing loud music while you're trying to talk.
(2)Opinionated J.
EAT HERE!! Hank on the juke, schooners of ice cold beer, and delicious basic hamburgers!! This isn't one of your new age gourmet burger place, this is a dive burger bar. Service was prompt and polite.
(5)Thomas R.
hands down, the best hamburger in DFW!
(5)Bernie D.
Very good burgers and fries, plus the wait staff was very friendly. We took our 3 month old there and they made sure we felt comfortable. Beers are big and cold. Little pricey, but Dad was paying so didn't see final tab with beers and such. I will definitely come back. Google maps took me to wrong place, moved maybe? But it was close. Had to look up their website.
(4)JimBob S.
We had a great time at Fred's on a Saturday night. We set on the patio and enjoyed the live band and cold drinks. The service was outstanding. There were four waiters who came around consistently. The burgers and calf fries were very very good. We will definitely be going back.
(5)Francesca W.
Chicken fried steak plate was really great, came with fries and a big salad. Not on the regular menu just ask. Just what we wanted on a drizzly cool day. It's cozy inside. Love the gold sparkly seats. Can't wait to go back for a burger, they looked sooo amazing. Kitchen is small and the place was packed so food takes a bit more time, don't be in a hurry. It's a great place to not be in a hurry in anyhow.
(4)Lindsay k.
I went here the other day with some friends, we each ordered something different and tried a bite of everything. One got nachos which were out of this world delicious topped with lettuce cheese, beef, guacamole, onions jalepeños, the works! Then my other friend got a Burger with chipotle cheese, and all the vegetables, it was SOOOO good And the burgers were huge, a meal on it's own, really juicy but also greasy. I had the mushroom Burger with thick slices of mushrooms, onions, bacon, Swiss and all the vegetables, it was delicious! The only thing I would have changed would be the fries, they weren't that great, a little overcooked. But for a little diner tucked in the middle of the tall buildings of Fort Worth it definitely surpassed my expectations.
(5)Michael W.
THE BEST BURGER IN FORT WORTH? C'mon folks, give me a &%$#@ break. I've had better burger experiences at Al's in Arlington, Whataburger, and Clown Burger over in Haltom City. Overrated? You 'betcha. Overpriced? That too ...
(3)Nathan Y.
If you want a fun cafe atmosphere Fred's is the place to go. They have yummy, greasy burgers if you are into that stuff. Fred's is definitely good at what they do
(5)Paul H.
Great way to spend a Sunday....be prepared to wait for your food or a seat to eat it at....burgers are great can't order them until after 1. Good joint
(4)Frances G.
Fred's epitomize the heart and soul of Ft. Worth - better yet, Fred's epitomizes Texas. From the lively patio lined with a wooden (Swiss Family Robin style) fence to a somewhat rugged clientele, Fred's will certainly keep your eyeballs busy! I went on a beautiful Saturday, so the wait did not surprise me one bit. But what did surprise was just how teeny the dining capacity was. You learn very quickly to be neighbors with everyone in your close quarters-true to the 'friendly' Texas way. Looking around the room, I noticed just how different a vibe Ft. Worth has than Dallas - a much more laid-back, slower pace. I never thought it would be so easy to identify, but it's evident we are two independent cities. The restaurant was chaotic - in a good way. People laughing, eating, and drinking while servers are frantically busing tables and taking drink orders. I sat alone at the bar sipping scooners of Lone Star as I soaked in the exciting atmosphere. THEN, my burger came....oh lordy. It was deeeelish. I had to wait a tad while, I am because of the large crowd they had. It wouldn't have bothered me if I hadn't just sucked down two beers and was kind of 'beer hungry,' which allowed me to eat the whole damn thing. I rarely finish a whole burger. Not because I am some health nut, but something about that much meat and bread makes me so stuffed after a few bites. It's a damn shame. Not this burger. I at the whole thang! Bun, meat, extra jalapenos and all!
(4)Jennifer S.
This place serves up a really good burger! I enjoyed the 1/4 lb. cheeseburger and shared fries with my mom. The cold beer was really good...18 oz in a really heavy mug. There was live entertainment outside and it was really good. This is a true Texas style place!
(4)Steven Y.
I will say that I am a fan of the burgers at this point, but there is so much more to try at Fred's. We ventured to Fred's today because we are visiting as many Diners, Drive-Ins and Dive show locations as possible and we were just 2 miles away at the Fort Worth Zoo. We were luck at 1:00 on a Sunday to find both a parking spot and a table outside on the patio. We ordered the blue cheese burger which was very good and a standard 1/4 pound cheese burger for the daughter which was also very good. The burger meat is extremely tasty and all the toppings are in just the right proportions to make you love the burger. The blue cheese burger had plenty or delicious blue cheese, but it was not over powering. The cheese burger had a nice blend of mustard and other condiments to make it a winner. We also had the benefit of live music which was nice, but made conversation at the table a little difficult. So why did Fred loose a star? Well it was for two different reasons. First the water at Fred's tastes like it cam out of a river and has a strong earthy taste to it, especially its after taste. I would prefer to drink water with my meal, but it tasted so bad I had to spend another $7.50 (a quarter of my total bill) to purchase drinks that were safe to drink. Second was the fact that our waitress must have been having an off day. She was very inefficient and didn't care is she served a glass that had soda all down the side of it. The other waitresses were working their butts off but we unfortunately must have got the wrong one. I would say that we will return to Fred's again someday to at least try the Diablo burger or made the Fred's tacos. We will decide at that point it it is worth the drive to become a regular.
(4)Chris B.
In from San Antonio and came here. Food was amazing and full of flavor. Live band outside old school type diner on the onside. Good drink specials and Rachel was not only an amazing server but super hot as well.
(5)Ally A.
Order the Diablo!!! YUMMO! Love the burgers and the dive ambiance is awesome. Cold beer!
(5)Corina T.
I missed the CMYE about a month or so ago - but the hubs and I were in the area wanting to try something new so we figured why not try this place out? Like many other people have mentioned, the ambience is awesome and definitely reflects Texas. We ate indoors and the first thing that caught my eye was the old school goldenrod glitter vinyl bar seats and and booths - they're freakin awesome!!!! The clientele is also fairly interesting - one of the patrons brought in this dried up snake to show off to some of the other patrons (gross and freaky in my book but at least it was far enought away from me to not freak out right?).Although they were extremely busy, we were seated almost immediately. The staff were amazing - our drinks were kept full constantly and they were very friendly without being over familiar and made us feel right at home while at the same time laughing and joking and keeping up on the game on the big screen - it made for a very chaotic but enjoyable setting. I got the Fred's burger and the hubs got the chicken fried steak. I have to tell you: that burger nearly brought tears to my eyes. it was the best freaking burger ive had in a very very long time and the fries were equally tasty. The chicken fried steak my husband got was huge and tasty as well, however he tended to keep glancing longingly at my burger from time to time. We also opted to get some taco fries and they were also pretty yummy even though id recommend going with the jalapeno option on it. One great thing about those is that Fred's isnt skimpy on the cheese. Overall - this place was fantabulous! It was loud and chaotic but one of the most all around enjoyable meals ive experienced in a while.

We went there last night and ordered the brisket tacos. They were not good at all!!!! Apparently they do no cut off the fat before serving it. We ordered the four tacos that were 15 dollars. Not worth the money. We sent them back and they took it off our bills and brought us some beef tacos there were wonderful. We don't recommend the brisket but the need tacos were really good. Staff is really nice and the place was pretty cool to just go hang out and have a few beers and listen to music!!!!
(3)Carolyn L.
I would recommend the burgers. They are a bit messy to eat but worth it.
(4)Lauren M.
I took my husband here on a date the other night and it sure wasn't what I expected! Parking was limited to about 10 spaces in front of the business and those were all full, so we ended up about 3 blocks away. The cafe part is super-small and when we walked in (on a weeknight, around 730pm), everyone seated at the bar whipped around and looked at us - felt like they were going to kick us out since we weren't regulars! They do have a patio outside with live music, but I was disappointed we couldn't enjoy both from inside. Anyway, we snagged the last of the maybe 10 tables and the server came right over for a drink order. Ordered 2 draft beers and they were HUGE and cold! A+ so far, we're off to a better start than I thought! I ordered the 1/4lb cheeseburger and a salad and hubby ordered the Diablo Burger and cheese fries. The food came out quickly (another plus) but they brought my huge side salad and my burger at the same time - I prefer my salad first, but maybe I should have requested it that way. I boxed up the salad and dug into my burger. My burger was loaded (almost too much) with lettuce, one slide of tomato, onions and a few pickled. Burger was juicy and cooked to the more done side of medium - made it a little dry on the edges, but otherwise ok. The bun was SUPER greasy on top - I couldn't quite figure that one out! By the time I was about 1/2 way through, all of the fixings had fallen off/out of the bun and I was left with just the burger. Hubby's burger was huge and the bottom bun literally disintegrated after two bites, leaving him no choice but to flip it upside down (with the shredded bun on top) and eat it without stopping. It was an amazing mess and he said it wasn't necessarily that good. Said it was juicy but that was the only special part. Cheese fries were big and the cheese was very melted. The fries themselves were the flexible kind, not crispy, more floppy. I thought they were ok, but nothing to write home about. The tab for 2 burgers, 2 beers, fries and a salad was about $32 plus tip, which I thought was a bit high. Based on the overall food and experience, we probably won't return.
(2)Joseph F.
They've finished the patio now and it is a great spot. Live music on the patio and Fred's always implies a fun time.
(5)Nina D.
It's not easy eating a gigantic burger while looking at hunting trophies posted on the wall...but this place is doable. It's much smaller than I would have thought. Dress casually...very casually.
(3)Jessica K.
Live Music- Good food- Can get a little pricey but well worth it- Delicious burgers ad great staff- You know a place is good when they keep the same waiters for years and years- :D
(4)Lauren S.
Total dive. Love it. Even with So7 building up around this location it keeps it's 'don't care' look. They have a huge patio with live music and some killer fans for the sweltering summer heat. The staff has always been friendly every visit. I usually get the blue cheese burger when I go- It is by far the best blue cheeseburger I have ever had. Be warned- it's huge! It always comes with fries, but I can't ever eat them! I'm always too full from my burger :)
(4)Matt S.
Can be a fun place if you are into country music and greasy food. While the burgers are good, they aren't as amazing as people say.
(3)Rowyn B.
16 oz ribeye, I will come back for u!
(5)Trey P.
At Fred's I got a burger and fries. The burger was plain and an average size, nothing special. The fries were ok but they were just fries. the environment was good but it was crowded inside and packed outside. I won't go back.
(2)Marie C.
I will keep it simple. Good food. If you are not afraid of the dive kind of thing. Also be weary that it is very very greasy. But taste wise it is great.
(4)Portia H.
1. parking is horrible. We almost got hit backing out in our Dodge "Mini Monster". 2. Atmosphere: The place is so close and tight feeling. The waitress explained that Freds used to be someones house who owned a lot of the property around it. The table was rickety and I have vertigo. The waitress kicked at the table, but this did not fix it. Soon after she came along w/ some cardboard coasters and stuffed them under the table & that fixed it, but strange that the trouble shooting & fix only occurred after we sat down to dine. There aren't"t many booths in there and it is less than 5 Ft across from the waitress stand, so truly she had to know that the table was rickety & needed to be fixed? I would be ashamed to seat someone at a rickety table unless I was trying to sabotage my own tip. 3. Ordering: We went b/c of the segment on DDD. As people have stated prior. The Rib-eye steak was not on the menu, so we could not verify price? The waitress said the steak would be $29.00. Pricey for a dive, but we came all the way from Arlington, it was a nice day, and we had the $, so we said OK. 4. Drinks: We took water. I was excited b/c it was in a large glass albeit "plastic", but it is a diner, so I did not expect much. it had a fair amount of ice in it, but when we sucked on it. I hope you like Fort Worth tap water. We didn't so my husband went out to the van & got (2) cold Sparklett water bottles. We have water service, so we are very sensitive about our water. I highly recommend they invest in a water system cause it's Texas and water is key. The nerve of any establishment not to have a water system? 5. Our choices w/ the Rib-eye steak were:(3) veggies: Mashed potatoes, greens, and black-eyed peas OR a salad and fries? Odd combo, but I took the latter and he took the former. The salad arrived in a soup bowl, but I really liked it. It had a mixture of greens, and the burgundy kind as well. Perhaps that is arugula. I don't know, but I was impressed. My mother is very, very picky about not being served just iceberg lettuce, but I'm not, but I was impressed for mom. What I really liked was I got pure i Balsamic Vinegar and not a mixture of someones interpretation of a balsamic vinegar dressing loaded w/ salt. The salad had a mixture of small pieces of tomato, cheese, and I think something else. The fries were greasy, but delicious, hand-cut. I should've stopped at the salad. I would've been impressed! When the steaks came out the taste was horrible for me, but he says it was alright. It had a soy sauce, whistershire taste to it and i hated it. After (2) bites we asked for Styrofoam containers b/c we were not impressed. There was a large rim of fat that would absolutely gag you around both of our steaks. Was that left on for flavor? When I saw and tasted the rim of fat I knew my husband was not going to eat his $30.00 steak. He hates fat. The waitress commented that my husband was already done w/ his steak. I said:"We both are". His sides were extremely salty. The mashed potatoes did not even resemble mashed potatoes. Someone should donate a Kitchen Aid mixer to this restaurant and teach them how to add warm milk and butter to the potatoes and put the setting on whip. the potatoes seemed to have been made w/ water, not milk or butter? His greens I just ate today and they did have bacon pieces in them but I had to cut the salt w/ rice. I just finished my steak this afternoon and I dumped sweet honey smoked Bullseye sauce on the steak and it wasn't too bad. The steaks were cooked med to well, w/ no pink like we liked and I enjoyed cutting it w/ the substantial although cheap steak knife for what few bites I took in the diner. I have another steak, his, to look forward to eating tomorrow, b/c he's not eating it. The cornbread that was approx 2"X2" was embarrassing. I called it a crouton and laughed. It was the most unappetizing cornbread I've ever seen. I think it was made w/ the Forth Worth city water too. No buttermilk had ever passed it. It was so hard & dry it was ready to be made as a cornbread stuffing. It was so dry it could've absorbed a lot of broth:) My husband actually said he liked it & he ate both pieces? Too bad he hasn't had my mama's buttermilk cornbread:( 6. Service: the waitress was nice and friendly, but she tried too hard. She kept asking us how we liked it. She should've hung back and observed. When someone comes in and orders steak for $30.00's chances are they're hungry. When you see them only eat a couple of bites that says it all??? The chef came out and asked us how we like the steak and we were polite. The waitress said prior to our slicing the steak that she wanted us to cut the steak and tell her if it was cooked to our satisfaction. Boy did I feel "bum rushed". I at least wanted to reserve the privilege of being able to cut into it when I felt like it, which is what I did.

A good burger with fresh toppings but the hand formed patty seems average to good. The fries are fresh cut. Both items are brought to you hot, they haven't been sitting a while. Great patio and live music, definitely worth going again and maybe giving one of their signature burgers a chance or the chicken friend steak; which looked really good! The waitstaff was very friendly.
(3)Eric N.
Best CFS sandwich ever. Service was great too.
(4)Dennis L.
Meh. It wasn't that great. I saw this restaurant on the foodnetwork, so I went out here twice. The first time I went, I had the sourdough chicken fried steak. That wasn't bad and the portions were good. The place was really small, so we had to sit outside. It wasn't a bad place to relax. The second time I went there, I ordered the lamb stew (what they are suppose to be known for). The stew was mediocre really. The flavor was okay, nothing great. Most of the party I was with ordered the burgers, nothing amazing. Normal burgers. What annoyed me a little was that the lamb stew was a special on the board and they listed it at $9.99. So when my check came out the lady said, "oh by the way, the stew was actually $14.99 so I added an extra $5 on." Wait wait wait...excuse me? You can't list a price and then realize you made a mistake so you up the price when your customer gets the bill. BIG NO NO. If you told me that it was normally $14.99, but since the board was wrong we charged you $9.99, that is fine. But to increase my meal by 50%? Geez. I asked to her to talk to the manager and they took the $5 off without a problem, but honestly this shouldn't have happened like that. Food is mediocre, service is alright... There is really nothing that special here in my opinion. There are plenty of better burgers in the area.
(2)Haley R.
The portabello burger was alright I guess. I wouldn't go back on my accord.
(3)Dan D.
Cheap goblets of beer, and the chipotle ribeye. I can definitely see why it's a triple D stop. The only thing keeping the rating down is the fries are alright, and the booths are tight for four grown men.
(4)Byron M.
I had seen the food network segment on diners, drive-ins, and dives and was intrigued so I wanted to see for myself. I was a bit underwelmed. Maybe my expectations were high after reading alot of positive press on this place. I got a good burger, maybe a bit greasy, and my wife got a good taco. But, for 1 beer, 1 soda, 1 burger, 1 taco plate, we spent more than $40. Kinda steep for a dive. Service was ok. Not bad, but not special either.
(3)Will W.
Fred's has been one of my favorite places to eat for a long time, they make my absolute favorite burgers. It's also worth it to check out the specials off-the-menu (but usually on the marker board) like the ribeye in chipotle brown butter sauce, the green chile lamb stew, or a recent gem, the big ass bowl o' chili. The chicken fried steak and tacos are good too, but it really is all about the burger. My only complaint is the increasing prices, but I don't mind paying a little more for a favorite.
(5)Mr. A.
If you like to eat meat, at all, you need to drive to Fred's and have a burger. If you don't, you are seriously missing out. Tiny little place inside but they have a decent sized patio if the weather cooperates. Either way, the beer was nice and frosty.

We were having a quick trip in DFW area and ate at Fred's because we had seen it on 3D. It is a small and rather crowded place, so for reasons I don't get, it is popular among locals. We ordered the chicken tacos (supposed to be hand pulled chicken), blue cheese burger and grilled cheese on texas toast for our 5 yr old. I have also ordered a Blue Moon which was huge and cold. The beer was $6.50 during happy hour, go figure :( The waiter, who was a kind and friendly dude, told us that the chicken was smoked and hand pulled. However hubby's chicken taco's were rather bland and the chicken in it was cubed, not pulled. My burger was charred and tough to bite, but I had ordered medium well. The burger bun fell apart after my 3rd bite. On my way to the rest room I have seen stacked trays of Mrs Baird's buns which explains the terrible quality of bread. The fries that came with the burger were dry, over-fried and chewy. To make matters worse, my daughter told me: "Mommy my grilled cheese sandwich tastes funny", and she ate only half of it.I did not want to try her sandwich to find out why it tasted funny. Our family of 2 adults and 1 child had 1 burger, 1 chicken taco, 1 grilled sandwich and 1 blue moon for $38 including tax and tip for mediocre food eaten while people piling at the entrance looked over our shoulder. Looks like Guy was waaaay off on this one. Frankly, I have had seriously better burger and the same beer for $4 less in Austin's Red Robin. Maybe I just don't get the bar/dive thing?
(2)bryan m.
The burgers are good, not the greatest, but that ok. Thats not really the point. Fred's is a great place to down some beers with your friends. Consider the high prices your cover charge for getting to enjoy the best patio in town.
(4)Denise B.
The best burgers ever !!!! It is made to perfection. The place is just fun to be at. The live music is great. Just a good place to kick back.
(5)Nathan V.
Went here for the first time on a rainy saturday morning. My girlfriend spent some time in Fort Worth a few years ago and this place was one of her favorites. We went for breakfast which she said was as amazing as their burgers. I was pleased to find out that they only do breakfast / brunch on sundays so I was able to get the burger without shame (because that is what I was craving). I chose their regular burger with cheese and bacon......... I highly recommend this combo. Being someone that loves a good burger, this place it pretty much at the TOP of my list of favorite burgers with only a very select other places around the country. It was fantastic. Perfectly cooked and the bacon and cheese shined through without overpowering the meat. I don't know if it was because of the massive rain storm or because we got there so early but we pretty much had the place to ourselves. One of the best burger experiences I have ever had. I would find it very hard to believe that any normal person could have a bad burger here.
(5)Jason A.
Easy four stars. I had the blue cheese hamburger with fries and my wife had a grill cheese sandwich and a salad. All were very good. The bloody mary was good but tasted a little on the less potent side. They had a dude singing country and playing his guitar. I wish had caught his name. The service was a little slow, but made it for it with friendliness. I'm a fan; I'm looking forward to going back soon.
(4)Ken f.
this place was voted best burger in DFW. I would say not so much. Fred's even made Texas Monthly top 50 again not so much. It is a dive that is true. for 10 bucks this burger was way over hyped an way way over priced. Ranchman in ponder an Christys in North Richland Hills has a better burger at half the cost. I can so that Texas Monthly has missed the mark as well as the DFW area. If your car broke down an they said you had to eat a burger before you could call for help I guess it might be worth it but other than that II will pass on a return visit
(3)Amanda R.
A friend and I visited on Sunday morning for what is very loosely called "Sunday Brunch". It is just a basic breakfast menu without the fanciness that the word brunch brings to one's mind, however as previously stated, the prices do reflect brunch-like prices. Whether it is worth the price or not, I will leave that for everyone to decide for themselves. We opted for a large breakfast of Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs which is also accompanied with fried southern potatoes and a sourdough biscuit. Believe me when I say we checked our cholesterol concerns at the door! The Chicken Fried Steak was perfection.. lovely flaky crust, tender meat, well fried. The gravy was delicious and had that truly made from scratch flavor. I am extremely picky about how my eggs are cooked.. like them over medium, which means a runny yolk but no runny white -- for some reason it is difficult for most places to cook an egg like this. Not sure why as I have no problem when fixing them at my own home. Anyway, they did an okay job of them, half cooked yolk but did have a little run to it, whites were completely cooked. Potatoes were tasty, but the biscuit was a bit too heavy for our liking, attributed I am sure to the fact that it is sourdough. All in all our meal was good and filling, service was very good and personable without being intrusive. We commented that we do want to try again at lunch or dinner for the infamous hamburgers.
(3)Shannon O.
Great Burger and atmosphere! Enjoyed sitting on patio listening to music! Love this place! Bit expensive for Burger but it was damn good! Grilled fresh jalepenos on the side. Awww! Will return soon for another!
(5)Cliff L.
This is an OMG place. Burgers to die for and actually a friendly staff eager to please. Everyone in the place takes ownership in each customer. If you need someting, ie refills etc, the first person nearest you will help. I had the Diablo burger. One of the best burgers I have had. Real flavor with a kick. My only comment would be to add more seasoning to the fries. It was the messest meal I have had, but that is a good thing. My oldest daughter wants to visit due to the DDD status next month. No problem, just another good reason to head to Fort Worth.
(4)Steve C.
This place is a hole in the wall. Reminds me of places in Austin. I had read the reviews that Fred's has the best hamburger in Fort Worth. Food Network filmed from there once. The burger is good, but I expected a "blow your doors off" type burger, it wasn't. The French fries are great, I think there are better burgers in this town. I think it may be a little over hyped because of where the location is. In the heart of the Cultural District. Over-all this place is okay.
(3)C T.
Fred's Cafe is a hamburger joint. Please, don't go there for anything else. When in a burger joint, order a burger. Three stars because their burgers are really, really tasty. The buns and the toppings are nothing special, but the patties are something special. However, knock some points off because they don't offer free refills on soda, the tea sweetener was no where to be found outside, and the time it takes to get the meal can be really long, especially for no frills food. Take note, they have a stage outside for live music. Bogus, they demand that all credit card charges are at least $10. You'll easily spend that much with a (simple) burger, drink, and tip. Sorta pricey for simple eats.
(3)Matt C.
Very cool place wedged into the newer West 7th Development in Fort Worth. I had heard about this place prior to seeing it on "Triple D", but definitely wanted to check it out after what I saw on TV. A group of 4 of us went in on a Friday night and had about a 30-45 minute wait at around 9pm. As long as they're serving cold beer, I can wait! The atmosphere was great, they had live music outside with limited seating, a bar to buy drinks and have a listen. We got on the waiting list inside the restaurant which is a small area, with booths around the edges and places to sit at the bar. Once we got our table, we ordered a few more beers (they come in Schooner glasses - love it!) and our dinner. I ordered the Diablo Burger with fries which was fantastic. Easily one of the best burgers I've had in DFW, and probably the best in Ft. Worth. Just enough spicy flavor from the chipotle peppers with the other flavors that pop and make the burger super tasty. I'll definitely be having this again. One of my friends ordered the Ribeye that night and said that it was amazing. And even better the next morning with some scrambled eggs mixed in. Fred's is a must if you're in the area or even if you're not, it's worth the drive!
(4)Solomon W.
All things taken into account, I think this place deserves a 4.5, but I rounded down because I am not too big of a greasy food person. Atmosphere, food, and character give this joint a high rating in my book. Burgers are SOLID here, and the Diablo burger offers something that is actually slightly original; the swiss cheese and chipotle peppers give a fresh kick to a burger with pretty awesome meat, though the burgers only offer a regular bun. The Sunday brunch is only offered until 1PM, which kind of sucks. The sourdough biscuits and sausage gravy are made from scratch here, and are something pretty special. The patio-type seating is really fun and relaxing, especially on a casual Sunday with nice weather. Live music outdoors is really inviting and good to unwind to over a burger. Great unpretentious food in a cowboy style feel.
(4)Juan R.
Diablo burger was good for lunch, can't say that it was awesome (unless the cowboy chef would have been there) but the service was pleasant. Went to eat there 'cause of Food Net's DDD. Maybe dinner time and beer outside would be best next time.
(4)Matt W.
Don't let the haters on here discourage you. This is a bar that serves burgers, so the prices are always going to be higher than at a fast food spot. The food and atmosphere are worth it, as long as you can grab one of the scarce seats.
(5)Robert B.
I also heard this place had great burgers. We were impressed with the asortment of people as there was everyone from old lady barflys to assorted punkrockers, cowboys, and longhairs. I also liked the $1.50 Coors. (I think we got the happy hour price as it was raining- yes its happy hour whenever it rains. that's what the sign says on the wall). They also had a number of " Best of" Greasy Spoon awards on the wall, but what greasy spoon charges over $10 bucks for a burger and fires! I had the patty melt. The wife had the Blue cheese burger. Both were good, but overpriced. I would go back, but stick to the Coors.

Featured on Triple D (don't hold that against them), this hole in the wall is the last bastion of sanity in a rapidly changing neighborhood - restaurants, condos, movie theatre - get the picture! Since the early 70's, Fred's has been serving kick A burgers and fresh cut fries. They'll put a schooner of cold beer on you, too! The portabello quesadilla and Fred's tacos are also stellar. Sunday brunch features quail and eggs. Comfortable patio with evening entertainment weather permitting. It's not cheap but does offer good value. fredstexascafe.com
(4)Phil S.
After seeing Fred's highlighted on "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives" had to go check it out. The place is small. Reminded me of the old Midwestern bars of the 60's and 70's. The service was great and the food was good. An eclectic menu all reasonably priced. Did I say that this place was small? Very limited parking in the vicinity. Overall we were very happy with the service and the food.
(4)suzanne r.
AMAZING burgers, cold cold beers. Try the "red" beer, it's got a real kick ! Come by for Sunday brunch, great home cooking with a friendly atmosphere and a colorful staff. One of my favorite places!
(5)Donald A.
Man do I love this place! The Diablo Burger, the cold beer, this really cool vibe they got going on. When the weathers nice, order a beer and a burger and after a few cold one's you'll swear that this is as close to Austin(the Austin before massive overdevelopmement) that we can get.
(5)DrBenGolfing G.
If you are a burger aficionado ~ this is the place. Best burger in Cowtown as voted by the Star-Telegram. Cold beer, too, plus excellent people watching. What's not to like?
(4)Shannon S.
We came here because it's a Ft. Worth institution. My honey and I also love to eat at restaurants that are featured on Food Network. Sometimes, though, the places were better before they were on TV--like Twisted Root and, sadly, Fred's. Here's what I like: local music is almost always playing, and I've been able to drink beer and watch my friends' performing. The patio has been upgraded and expanded in the past few years, so it's very group-friendly. I almost always eat the patty melt. It's just not as good as it used to be. Maybe quantity over quality is to blame. I can't quite put my finger on it.
(3)Athena S.
Really good burgers. Seating is a little sketchy. Depending on the weather u might be hot or cold possibly even rained on. Might hv trouble finding parking this area is especially busy. Servers were ok. Food took a minute but everything is made fresh to order and we did receive our food hot. Which was good. A little pricey but if u like burgers it's well worth it.
(3)Wichita C.
There is nothing here that stands out. Its a burger place. They have a good burger. Simple as that.
(3)Brian F.
Fred's is amazing is so many different ways. When I first started eating here, there was essentially nothing in the area. Some small 50's warehouses, a couple really old buildings, and a Wendy's a few streets over. Then in the middle of this span of nothing was a little red shack with a crappy little deck. The burgers were great. The staff and owner were friendly. There was a decent selection of cold beer. The Sunday brunch was magnificent. The live music was usually good to great with very few stinkers. Fred's was a little oasis and it'd been there for longer than I can speculate. The area has seen some extremely fast growth in the last few years. When construction began, the patio got a stockade fence, which I actually loved. Then there were new multi-story developments on all three corners. Then a parking garage went up directly next to the restaurant. We've been continuing to support the little red shack and are thrilled that it hasn't closed down in the face of all the new yuppy construction. The prices are high (really, they're not cheap), but the atmosphere was more than worth it. Sadly, last time I was there, the patio had been demolished. The plans for the new patio look almost scarily modern. I genuinely hope that Fred's doesn't lose its charm and become another faceless business in the middle of all those fancy high rises. I've grown to really love the place. Hopefully the little red shack isn't modernized as well. Long story short, go late Sunday morning for brunch and coffee (leading into a beer) and help support this old Ft. Worth gem.
(5)Barkle T.
A-1 chow and atmosphere. Have met lots of nice folks here. Beware the (toasty) patio in summer.
(5)John C.
Diablo burger...... superb.
(4)LuckieMaounds P.
Very Texan. Nice outdoor setup for sunny days with live music. Good day-drinking spot.
(4)Jeff L.
Fred's is essentially an institution in FTW and has been there longer than all the new stuff on West 7th. Some good Texas style food and a limited types of beers. I would prefer a few more local Texas craft beers, but you can't always have it all. Food is great here if you like burgers, and the beer choices are limited. Live music on the weekends, and the interior has a rustic feel (new area) so don't expect to be wow'ed with plush seating. As for the inside, it's still as it always was.. a very cool nostalgic diner feel with the same great food. Diablo burger... you had me at hello. Beware this burger will force you to gulp a few extra brews as the fire subsides, but it is so darn good.
(4)Mark B.
We stopped at Fred's today for lunch. The service was fast and friendly. They really go the extra mile to make kids feel comfortable! My wife and I had the chicken fried steaks; the CFS were tender, perfectly cooked and slathered with plenty of gravy! My daughter ordered and the grilled chicken sandwich which she declared was "Yummy!". The house fries were terrific; not too salty and cooked to golden brown perfection. The atmosphere was lively and fun... you gotta hear the cook sing to understand where I'm coming from on this. :-) We will definitely be back!
(4)Amanda D.
Literally just finished eating, the waitress if you can call her that was rude, 45 minutes of waiting for our food, burger dry and tasteless, fries were just greasy and mushy, and very over priced. Never coming here again.
(2)Jenn P.
Amazing!!! Try the verde burger.
(5)Christian M.
going to Fred's for the first time was high on my list whenever i would be in he area. well..i went...and was not very happy. we waited 45min for our burger!!! not sure what was going on...waitress walked by us many times....but we had to remind her that we still wait for our food. another waiter took my empty glass...never asked if i want another one...had to waive the waitress down to get another beer. Food was just ok...fries had not much taste...burger was good. now i wish i would have gone to check out rodeo goat...that is still on my list.
(3)Stephanie L.
First time to Fred's today and it was fantastic. All of the servers went out of their way to make the experience really fun. The food was really delicious burgers and the chicken fried steak were great! They also have a live band playing making the atmosphere even better. Thanks for a great lunch Fred's!
(5)Craig J.
We came here after a school event right down the street at chimmy's. I was a little apprehensive about trying this place at first but after walking in, I felt right at home! This place is a little (and by a little I mean a lot) country with paraphernalia everywhere. The staff here is awesome! Everyone was nice and helpful. They had a bluegrass band playing that night and they were great! I had a bacon cheeseburger that was out of this world and the fries were really good. I cannot wait to go back and try some other items. Good drink specials also!
(4)a c.
Had the chicken fried steak. The meat was too thick for my liking. It was also bland, and the batter fell right off the steak. The corn was good, but the corn bread was hard and cold. Mashed potatoes were a good consistency and flavor. Definitely won't come back here for the chicken fried steak. I only gave them two stars over three because the other people I ate with got the Fred burger, and they seemed to enjoy them. They got the green chile peppers on their burgers, and they really loved that.
(2)Jamie G.
This must be one of the friendliest places I've ever been to. The food is really good, come very hungry because these are fat boy portions and you will want to eat until you feel sick. I know, gross, right?! The inside is a tad cramped, but it's all booths and bar, so you still feel like you have your own little space to be in. The decor is.... Well, it's antlers. Lots and lots of antlers. The patio is quite spacious, wooden everything! Tables, floor, bar. I guess you could say its cohesive!! :-) They often have live music on the patio, and it's covered, so even with blazing Texas heat, you're able to enjoy yourself outside. Good job, Fred's! And yes, I agree with everyone else, the diablo is so good, I've yet to try anything else!
(4)Daniel C.
My all time favorite burger joint. Try their BBQ speciality burger. It's very juicy. Their own homemade BBQ sauce tastes AMAZING! Friday and Saturday nights are very busy. Average wait time before you get your food is about 45 minutes on the weekends.
(5)Elaine M.
We were in Fort Worth for guitar and birkenstock shoe repair and read about this place on triple D and thought to check it out. Expectations were medium as I have frequented triple D recs before and this place did not disappoint! We were greeted with a warm hostess who walked us across the way to a table in the covered outdoor seating. First, the covered seating was outdoor but it was warm inside with large heaters throughout. The decor is festive and fun! The lunch crowd was coming in and the place was filling up quickly. I had the portobello burger and the hubby had the Diabolo burger. The kiddos split a grill cheese. The food came out fast and looking delicious! The bun was not soggy and was nicely browned on top. And the fries were good, with good taste and not too salty but I thought they could be just a little more crispier as I love crispy light fries. Hubby raved about the whole chipotles in his burger and that it had a good kick to it. My portobello burger, best I yet to have to date came with lettuce, pickles and mustard, yumm. Kids loved the place because they served plain milk and in kiddie cups with straws! The best part was the live music that started to play. The kids loved the performance and it certainly warmed up the atmosphere. The waitstaff were super friendly and came to ask us 4x how the food was. Unfortunately we were unable to give a full answer as we were stuffing our faces! They also have a sign posted of the beers that they are serving and they had a nice variety of pale ales, lagers, and local beers.
(3)Oxykitty S.
Friendly staff that greeted us at the door and invited us in. Booths were a little uncomfortable with the duct tape on the seat but I didn't mind too much. The Serrano burg was delicious but pretty spicy imo. So just beware that it's definitely not for the sissies who are afraid of getting burned. The chicken fried steak was disappointing. It was bland... Kinda thick and chewy... But mostly bland. Even the gravy was bland. Fries were okay. Not super crispy and probably could've used some salt as well. honestly wasnt too impressed, probably won't come back but it seemed pretty popular with the fort worth crowd.
(3)H B.
I've taken out-of-towners here so they can have the Texas experience, and to check out a place that was featured on Dine-In, Drive-in and Dives. I recall after every meal I would remind my guests that we're here for the atmosphere and not the food and that the burgers in Texas are really good. Fred's burgers were average, the fries were greasy and limp, and the chicken fried steak was bland and chewy.
(2)dean d.
Good old fashioned but greasy burgers (and bun): don't get less than the half-pounder as the bun-patty ratio doesn't work with less. The fries are lame: getting the chili on top helped them a lot. Beer on tap, and Margaritas are made to order: skip the iced tea.
(3)Tee N.
We chose to go here because it was on the food network. However they have multiple location but we went to the Fred's off of Currie Street because it's the original one. Parking was hard to find. This location is located in a very business part near downtown Fort Worth. We got the diablo burger and the ribeye because we've heard good things about it but we were both disappointed. Even the fries was not good. I will not come back!
(1)Brin F.
Wife loved diablo burger (hot without masking the flavor of the burger) and I had the mushroom / bacon / swiss. Just an all around great burger joint!!
(4)Chris P.
Go to Fred's and take a look around at everything that is not Fred's. Condos, development, slick polished surfaces, rounded corners, and corporatized newness everywhere. Except here. And if you're keen on thought exercises, just think of how much money this place was probably offered to pack up and make way for all that other stuff as the walls on the adjacent parking garage and Phase X+1 on the nearest development were going up, up, up. And it's still here. Doing what it does. Well. ...and probably making a killing, but what's important here is that they seem to have never lost the intangible thing that makes them what they are. Which would be all I needed to know about any other place, but this place is and has always been a beloved institution here for good reason. The food is delicious and the vibe is as casual and friendly as it could possibly get. There's (good) music all the time. Any time, day or night, it's well worth a visit.
(5)Brook V.
Amazing food. Love just about everything on there. Tacos especially but I will enjoy the nachos occasionally which are super tasty! We usually get the food to go but if we decide to stay the atmosphere is OK and basically laid back. A band on the weekends livens up all of Curry so definitely a place yall want to check out if you're super hungry and looking for a good Texas style bar.

Parking situation sucks,be prepared to park at least a couple blocks away. The Diablo burger should be renamed Satan's burger,it was waaaay too spicy. I love spicy food but eating a burger should not make you want to cut your mouth off. That being said the atmosphere is great. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. A little price but they have a damn good BBQ burger that you should order, fries were great and I loved the tea.

Finding a place to park during peak times is a nightmare! But if you're lucky you might find an open spot right out front. There is outdoor sitting, and very close booth sitting inside. It's bar like atmosphere is fun and exciting, but the food is what we came for. I got a mushroom and bacon burger, it came with fries. It was a big burger and cooked just right. As an appetizer we had the calf fries, they were golden brown, light and crispy. My husband got their version of chicken fried steak, it was a very large serving. He thought it was very good. Good service, very good food, but limited space, good place to come with friends or family!

Excellent burgers and cold beer. Quite a few TV's so you can catch the game. Losing the Oui (previous establishment and FW institution) was sad at the time, but Fred's is much better. Clean, open and good service. All of the servers have good BS and treat their customers well.
(4)Amy P.
Great "hole in the wall" place. They've got great food and great service (super friendly people work here). I have yet to experience it on their patio with a band but would love to. I've always just came for the burger.
(4)Leigh W.
Fredsburger and bacon cheese fries ROCkED! Very much a bar atmosphere. I would not bring my kids here due to all the hollering and cursing at the bar but would definitely come again without them!
(4)Jaime L.
Service is great. Very friendly. Sometimes slow because it's packed on weekends, especially during the rodeo. Worth the wait.
(4)Katie F.
This was my first visit to the famous Fred's. The staff recommended the Hamburgers. I got the BBQ burger. It was good, really good. However, it was a tiny bit overdone for my taste. Also, I think that it was a good burger, and I would definitely return, I'm just wondering if was "spectacular" as everyone says.
(4)Chelle H.
I rarely eat burgers but 'When in Rome...". The Bacon Cheeseburger was amazing and I've been craving one ever since. I prefer my fries crisper, but they were fresh and good, just not the star of the show here. I supposed service depends on the time/day/server but we had excellent service and got our order quickly.
(5)Randy G.
Food was awesome. By far the best burger joint within miles. It's the only Burger spot I'll eat at in Downtown Fort worth.
(5)Sarah D.
I spent a couple of years as a resident of 76107 and we were always going to Fred's because they have a great basic burger and a good bar. The area around has gotten pretty crowded so its not as easy to just walk in any more. Now that I live in the mid-cities my trips are a lot further apart. We stopped in Sunday right at noon and got inside with a table and it was like being reunited with an old friend. Great Atmosphere and Burgers.
(4)L E.
Slow slow slow, quite possibly the slowest service in the city. Yes it's good or maybe you wait so long for your food that you are starving and only think it's good. FYI.. I ordered my food over 30mins ago and still waiting. I was already hungry , now I'm starving.
(1)Melondy D.
Fred's is pretty good. The food is good, it always packed when I go, so the servers get pretty busy. I had the frog legs the last time I went and the were okay. Good place to go with a SMALL # of friends on a non-busy day.
(3)Michelle A.
Loved it! The burgers were big and the meat was good. They recommended the burgers and cheese fries with bacon....AMAZING!!! So much food could hardly eat all of. Live band had great music! Totally Texas atmosphere :)
(5)Nolen G.
OK, turn in by the old AMC dealership and go past the old warehouses and you will see Fred's on the left.....wait, what the hell are all these building doing here? Why are all these yuppie kids in the street. Where do I park? Oh, that parking garage rising up behind Fred's! I know, I know....Fred's is still super cool sitting there in all that urban sprawl but damn...who moved my cheese? I am usually not too worried about change and progress but it is a bit of a vibe killer to have all that new stuff all around Fred's. The old bar is still more-or-less the same. The food is still great and the beer is still cold. Did I hear right that they franchised it? Say it isn't so..... I had the Fred's Burger and it was quite proper. Cooked perfect and the fries were nice and crispy. All under $10 which is very, very nice. Good stuff. Lost a star for my shock at the urban sprawl around it. Otherwise it is a 5 star experience.

Well, hello Fred's Texas Café. How YOU doin'? Here's what you need to know: *Get the chicken fried steak and share it with your entire table. Seasoned batter, homestyle gravy made from bacon grease, Texas Toast fried on the griddle in pure butter, a pile of floppy fries that can be used to hold it all together on your fork. You're welcome. *Fred's is busy as hell. There's a covered patio that can handle large groups and booths and counter seating inside. Get there early or be prepared to hover for a table. *Draft beer is served ice cold in a frozen grande mug. Do it. *Parking is a bitch. Just drive a couple of blocks over and park on the street. Believe me, you'll appreciate the exercise after you've eaten. Fred's is an unassuming honkeytonkish good old boy bar that happens to serve up some freakin' bad ass food. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout.
(5)Liz G.
What a dive! And I say that with the utmost love! We love going here for what we lovingly call "grody food." It is not the healthiest - but it is some of the tastiest! Love the cheese fries almost more than the hamburger. And that Chicken Fried Steak is quite tasty, too. Once you find parking - on the street and not in the garages surrounding that shopping center - it's worth whatever wait you have.
(4)John C.
I had a sample of the lamb stew which was excellent. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. All were great. The chicken fried steak has a sourdough batter. The mashed potatoes were light, fluffy, and full of flavor..
(5)James T.
I stopped in after checking out DDD joints in FT. Worth. The beef tacos and hand cut fries didn't disappoint. I wish I had more time to come back and check out the rest of the menu. This place has got to be a rockin good time on a Friday night. I will be back for sure!

My brother and I stopped by after the gun show today. Neither of us had been here before, nor had we really heard about it. We don't hang out in Ft. Worth all that much. We just Googled up some places, drove to the general vicinity, and Fred's was the first place we came across. I was very satisfied with my burger (BBQ Cheddar Burger, hold the pickles & onions). I could go into detail about the divine experience my taste buds had with the intermingling of the sweet & tangy BBQ sauce , the hearty thick-cut bacon, the gooey chewy cheddar cheese, the juicy beefy beef, and the zesty mustard... but I won't. I'll just say I really liked it. My Shiner was nice & cold. The fries weren't anything special, but they did the job of being taters. Service was just fine. Prices were a little on the high side, but that's okay. I'll pay good money for good food. I'm not a burger snob or a "foodie", and I had no idea this place had been on Diners, Drive-ins, Silly hair-do's.. I just happened to stop in because I was hungry, and I walked out very satisfied. Immediately after eating here, I declared this place my new favorite burger joint. In hindsight, I'm not really sure about that since I've had quite a few good burgers, but Fred's is definitely right up there at the top for me, now. I will definitely be returning.
(5)Justin M.
I don't get what all the hype is about Fred's and their burgers?? Have you guys never had a good burger? It tasted no better than a burger from say Texas Road House (which isn't that good) or another chain in those lines.Yeah they grind their own meat, but I'm sorry it tasted like any normal burger. I've given they 3 trys and all didn't live up to the hype at all.
(2)Kristie A.
Pretty much ditto to what Shawn W said. The burger looked promising, but the meat patty made the burger just okay. Not horrible, but I've definitely had better. BUT the chicken fried steak and the Texas toast was where it was at, man! So thankful that Megan M shared with us. Another friend ordered the nachos and those were pretty damn good too. Hello fresh cilantro and guacamole. Yum! The huge schooner of beer was nice too, and they had a Rahr beer on tap. Pale Ale, I think. Loved the feel of this place. Small diner inside with bar seating and booths. There's a covered patio out back that had a band playing. Too bad we couldn't find seating out there. The only weird thing was getting added gratuity to our tabs. There were 7 of us, but three sat at the bar and 4 of us in a booth, so most of the food was ordered at the bar. So kind of weird to see that, but whatevs. It's doubtful I'll be back to FW any time soon, but until then I'll keep dreaming about that chicken fried steak.
(4)Shawn S.
One of my favorite hang-outs. Friendly staff and cheap beers and tasty burgers. The cheese fries with jalapenos is a favorite. They jalapenos are grilled so they have this great flavor to them. Yum! There are always pretty talented bands playing as well.
(5)Nicole B.
You cannot go wrong with this dreamy burger & beer joint!
(5)Mark D.
Cool atmosphere sometimes gets a little hot! Great burgers!
(5)Robert D.
Good classic Texas food. I also really enjoyed the casual atmosphere and the general friendliness of the staff and patrons. It looks like they have a good music and patio scene in the evenings too. Definitely worth checking out.
(4)Joven M.
I ate a portabella mushroom burger with house cut fries. Price was a tiny bit high (@$12) but very good. Son enjoyed the quesadilla. Wife just ate an order of cheese fries. We loved it all. One note: parking is limited and neighboring businesses DO TOW. beware.
(5)Kate M.
This place was pretty hyped up for nothing. I feel like just because triple d came through it was deemed a 'great restaurant' and 'a must try'. The previous reviews really excited me and I thought I was in for a one of a kind treat, but I was let down. The service, like in the previous reviews, was not the best - at all. Very rushed, didn't pay attention, some things didn't make it to the plate. All in all, it was a very standard burger. I had the diablo burger and felt good about it. I would try something else next time for sure.. The taco fries were the best things there, hands down. My friend got some nachos and they were really good too. The ground beef on the taco fries and nachos was well seasoned and not dried out. Prices were pretty standard also. $10-12 for a burger.
(3)Chris K.
Cool little hole in the wall that has indoor and outdoor seating. The staff are friendly but not over the top. The burgers are definitely top 5 in DFW. The fries are INCREDIBLE! You don't feel rushed and if your in the right place at the right time your get some great interaction between regulars and the staff. Fun place great food. Not a place I would take my kids, but every place doesn't need that.
(4)Kristie A.
Our absolute favorite burger joint.....Hands. down. You don't have to get anything fancy - simply the Fredburger with cheese and fries will fill you up and you will want another one when you're done - they are that good! A BeerRita on the side is a great addition and they have one of the best around. Great service and friendly staff!!!
(5)CJ H.
I've never had a bad time at Freds. They have an excellent burger selection and some cheesefries that are just the ticket for some beer munchies. We like to go on weeknights when it's not too crowded and sit at the bar. Have a full meal or just a beer either way, come to Freds!
(4)Russell P.
Good burger. A little overpriced but always a quality meal.
(4)Connie W.
Pretty good burgers. Service could be better. Too slow to take orders and slow on return of the food. I'm sure I'll eat here again, though.
(3)Joe C.
1. Service was slow and unfriendly during a sat afternoon. My first experience of unfriendly service in all of Fort Worth honestly. 2. Guy fieri...you got this one way wrong. Burger was greasy as hell, overpriced and overcooked. Fries were boring and greasy too. I won't go back here EVER especially since there are so many other good places close by. If you want a burger, your better off with even just an in and out burger than this place or checking out any of the other places around town with better service and a better product.
(1)Nick L.
Great burgers, and great atmosphere! Listening to live music while drinking cold beer and eating a Diablo burger is one of the best ways to pass the time. This place definitely stands out with the rest of West 7th building around it.
(4)Kevin N.
Bring the stretchy pants and squeeze yourself into that seat: Fred's has been dialing up some belly busting burgers since long before West 7th looked like the West 7th of today, and they sport the loyal following that bears witness to same. Fred's is, by any practical definition, a Fort Worth institution, replete with the characters and stories and lineage that reflects time spent. So imagine my anticipation as I wandered in and nabbed a lunchtime seat: as upbeat and good natured as the service is (and it is), these folks expect to be and are full bore each and every day, cozy confines and beyond. And to be certain the Fred's burger was my contraband of choice, a thick series of chomps bringing forth a harmony of flavor and my impending waddle back to the car. They're not creating new currency here; one might argue to the contrary, that Fred's does well what it has always hung its hat on, and that's a win for the rest of us. In the mean time, I do recommend a gander at the patio too; especially given temperate weather, nothing like catching a Texas troubadour with a cold one of your own in hand. Yee haw.
(4)Erika C.
Hamburgers are the bomb here! Their Serrano Burger actually lives up to it's name. It has a kick that makes it worthy of being named a Serrano Burger. I get sooo tired of foods labeled as being spicy that are not spicy at all. Perhaps my palate has a higher pleasure tolerance for spicy food.................maybe, but food items slathered with peppers SHOULD be spicy!!! Fred's Serrano Burger is hard even for me to finish without taking a few breathers ;) I give Fred's two stars because I usually just want to order, eat as quickly as possible, and get the heck out of there. There staff is so rude and the type of place where you actually have to say something to get their attention followed the usual "Just a second" response. My advice is to order as much as you can at once, you won't get maintenance service here.
(2)Alexandria B.
I'd put off going to Fred's for a while. I cringe whenever someone says a place is classic "Fort Worth food." In my experience that means it varies from delicious to prison slop. Besides, it always looked crowded and the menu never really jumped out at me. It's not exotic, there's no foamed anything, and the prices well...I can actually afford them. So yeah, my interest wasn't exactly piqued. But I was hungry and in the area. I was tired of the usual places and decided to give Fred's a shot. I left my pretension at the door, sat down in the broken booth with a friend and enjoyed an excellent meal. I went with the mushroom Swiss burger and fries. This is a take off your belt, wear an elastic waist band, don't even try to look cute while eating kind of meal. The huge burger was cooked perfectly, loaded with mushrooms and topped with melty Swiss cheese. Usually when I get this burger I can't taste the Swiss, but this cheese had that slightly pungent, savory flavor that I love. I could see why some people might not like the fries, if they're into that crispy fry sorta thing. But I love long, greasy, slightly flaccid fries. My plate was stacked with them! I told my friend they might be my favorite fries ever. Not any spectacular flavor just delicious, grease-laden goodness. What Fred's does is make good food that you want to eat. It's not fancy, or healthy (unless you count the burger salad) but it's not a meal you'll regret having.

If you are in Fort Worth for breakfast, you MUST go here! I had the Migas, he had the Chicken Fried Steak. The sourdough biscuits were so good, enough to order a whole plate of them. The tortillas, I'm hoping were housemade, were also a star of the mix. Didnt have to wait too long for a seat, but that was because we were lucky. There was plenty of outdoor seating, but it was a bit too cold for a pleasant breakfast. And I claim to be from Chicago....lol I did have to add a bit of salt to everything, but beyond the salt, the taste was good nonetheless. Oh, did I mention the GIANT mimosa? Got me bubbly. If you read the other reivews, it sounds like lunch time fare is just as good. If Im ever back in Fort Worth, this is where I'll eat.
(4)Thy T.
It took me several tries to finally eat at this restaurant. I think it was due to them closing on a certain day and I kept coming on that one day. On the outside, it looks like a boxcar which is a pretty neat idea. They have an outside patio which is great whenever the temperature is perfect. I had their burgers several times as well as chicken fried steak and several other dishes. The food didn't leave too much of an impression on me. The food was decent but nothing out of the ordinary for me.
(3)Desirae B.
Great burger sitting between the worst buns that fall apart and disintegrate. They aren't substantial enough to hold up to the tasty patty and condiments. The fries looked amazing but disappointed. Crunchy and overcooked...tasted like refried cold fries. I really like the vibe here, just would love a bun that doesnt fall apart like a good brioche or bakery bun and fresh fries! Is that too much to ask?
(3)Mary L.
Love the patio, love the food. Parking is a little rough so just be prepared to walk, which is great for after dinner or lunch :)
(5)Mister S.
OVERRATED!!! Service is Sloooow and it's a freaking hamburger. Nothing special about it, it is good, but nothing crazy good. Fries here suck. Outside is hot patio seating, but pretty fun with the live bands. Inside is small. Whataburger is the exact same thing but a little less meat. Don't understand why people like this place.
(1)Thomas T.
Okay - not the most polished atmosphere, but then you can go even when you weren't planning to, just when the temptation hits for a burger. Yes, it is a little greasy. Yes, the waitstaff wasn't trained at the Ritz. I wouldn't eat here every week as my arteries wouldn't take it, but their burgers are addictive. When we go, it's not for the beers - so the price of just a burger, fries and a soft drink is reasonable. One of the top three or four burgers in town, but has some rough edges.
(3)Aaron S.
What's all the fuss about the service as terible the food was okay but not worth the price and the atmosphere, just let me say you can get better for cheaper. I spent 60 bucks for 1 burger a few beers and an order of cheese fries during happy hour. WTF
(1)Rachel W.
wow I hadnt been to this place in forever. I used to go there back in the 90s with my dad and it was a dive! The owners are cool and they did all sorts of community work like feeding the homeless on the holidays. Well I went back tonight and the place is HUGE. they have an outside ares, with live bands. I really was blown away. The area was nice too. We had a great waiter, Bret. Bret turned me onto a local beer on tap with a free sample, but i will have to get it next time because the shiner i got on tap was huge. I think the place is family run still, though clearly its not only family because they must employ 40 people. I had the diablo burger, which apparently got best burger in DFW for the local rag thats sorta like LA weekly. Thats pretty cool. Anyway I think it might just be a local attraction, it ceratinly should be a thing tourist put on their to do list. YUM and fun should always go hand in hand.
(5)Bill S.
Have tried Hamburgers all over the US and this is one of the best. Great place! Had a good time talking w/ the regulars at lunch and food did not dissapoint. Hated I had to leave town and head back home without getting to go back the next day. Have only been there once however next time I'm back in town this will definatley be my first stop.
(5)Mick R.
Fred's is still a great old dive and the burgers are great but their prices are getting a little silly for what is basically home style pub grub. Cool patio, live music, and cold-ass beer add up to a good time at Fred's but I wish they would quit trying to keep up with their upscale neighbors on the food prices.
(3)Julie L.
Don't let the looks of this place fool you. This is what my husband and I like to call the classic "hole in the wall" diner.
(5)Stacey R.
We had a table of 5 tonight & it was horrible service. The food was descent, but the service & management was absolutely appalling. We had to hunt down a waitstaff to get our drink order & wait on our table. Our food came out slow & it was extremely cold. Again, absolutely horrible service & the place is bad managed.
(1)Brad L.
Good Food, good people watching as well. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the seating and wait staff situation is kind of odd and not very well set up. Over cool place with minimal parking, so be prepared to walk a few blocks.
(4)Andrew S.
Fred's has the BEST burgers around! Don't get me wrong, all of their food is good, but you owe it to yourself to get a burger! Let's not forget those Coldass beers! Live music and a minimal atmosphere make this the perfect place for a simple night out.
(5)Margaret A.
Terrible experience. I ordered a Diablo Burger because I love chipotle peppers and I LOVE spicy food. Now, I'm not some bullshit Yankee who thinks 'spicy' is the pico de gallo at Taco Bell. I bleed vindaloo. The Diablo Burger was WAY. TOO. SPICY. I'm not a chef, but even I know how to core a chili pepper to remove the seeds and membrane. Yes, even after it's been de- and rehydrated. My time at Fred's was an over priced, over spiced nightmare.
(1)Sheila C.
Great atmosphere, great service, great food! We went in the afternoon with a party of 9, so we found sitting on the patio. It was very hot, but they do have fans blowing everywhere. Inside is small, so not great for big parties. They are famous for their burgers; it was too hot to eat a big burger, so I tried the crispy bacon cheese fries. They were delicious! I highly recommend them if you like greasy fries (I had been drinking, so it was heaven for my belly!) My husband ordered the serrano burger and it was delicious as well. I don't recommend the patio on a hot summer day, but this place would be great during the spring or fall. I will definitely be back on a cooler day!
